HUS most commonly follows gastroenteritis caused by E.coli 0157:H7 with onset in childhood. endothelial cell injury is the primary event , leads to formation of myriads of PLATELET-FIBRIN HYALINE MICROTHROMBI that occludes arterioles and capillaries. This leads to consumtive THROMBOCYTOPENIA, MICROANGIOPATHIC HEMOLYTIC ANAEMIA . There is also FEVER and dominance of ACUTE RENAL FAILURE[kidney is pale and swollen, has a flea bitten appearance] .
