B. 200 mL
C. 100 mL
D. 50 mL
E. 25 mL

Please show calculations.

This q is probably more tricky than you think. So give it a shot

  #3

rapid ingestion---> incr ECF, mainly ISF i d guess...hypoOsmol with movement of H2O across cell mb till trying to get a new Osmolar equil . , cells swell, but compensation never complete.
inside cell there is approx.143mOsm Na, so water flows in till an equil point reached btw this "inside cell" 300 mOsm and 600 ml ingested... however i came up with calculation of 100 mls going into VAS( vascular)
my answer is C

note... high high chances to be wrong grin

  #5

I came up with 40, but since thats an option , I think would go for D. 50 ml

  #6

Doc, explain your ans pls. Technically, we should come up w/ the right answer!

  #7

good Q.....i have to think....or read

  #8

ANYONE ...w/ the answer yet?

  #9

600 ml of free water would add up 600 ml to the pol of total body water, so all components should increase their water content equally based on their proportions...
now 2/3 of this 600ml will go ICF which equals 400ml
200 ml which remains in ECF, out of it roughly 3/4th will be retained in ISF, while 1/4th in the plamsa, so its probably about 50 ml
i will go with D
