RELATIVE POLYCYTHEMIA is a condition in which there is reduced plasma volume  HEMOCONCENTRATION.

it is different from ABSOLUTE POLYCYTHEMIA...which is classified into primary and secondary.

1] PRIMARY:  due to abnormal proliferation of myeloid stem cells, ERYTHROPOITEN levels are NORMAL OR LOW  POLYCYTHEMIA VERA.

2] SECONDARY:  B'COS OF INCREASED ERYTHROPOITEN LEVELS...they r futher classified as

a] APPROPRIATE: lung disesse, high altitude living, cyanotic heart d disease.

b] INAPPROPRIATE; :erythropoiten-secreting tumors..eg CC,hepatoma,cerebellarhemangioblastoma.

so high altitude ,COPD and hypoxemia come under APPROPRIATE SECONDARY and NOT RELATIVE POLYCYTHEMIA.
SO HOPE I'M CLEAR! smiling face
