44) A 50 yo man who has had a MI was diagnosed as having familial hypercholestermia, an AD disorder. HIs son has not been tested. Whats the probability that the patient's granddaughter, through his son, will have hypercholestermia?

a) less than 1%
b) 10%
c) 25%
d) 33%
e) 50%?

whats the answer and how do you figure it out? i dont get it

e is the answer ,coz AD alleles relatively rare so recurrence risk can either be 50% or 75% ...50% if AA X aa and 75% if Aa x Aa...assuming that the son has no dz at all then the answer shud be no disease transmitted to granddaughter ..not a choice!
tell me if i am wrong

25%

what syour explanation lq2006?

  #5

the probability that the son will inherit it is 50& or 1/2, the probability that the grand daughter will inherit it from the father is another 50% or 1/2, you have to multiple the 2 since they are 2 independent events, that gives you 25%.

so i also go with 25%
