In a case of sore throat and with a history of multiple sexual partners, Should we have to tell the patient that " I am considering bacterial or viral infection of the throat but at the same time I would like to rule out HIV infection also.Is that ok with you?"

Should we have to ask consent for HIV testing in a ptient with sore throast+multiple sexual partners???

Thank you coke!Your replies are quick and fantastic!

I have 2 more questions for you!

1.Suppose if we forget to ask consent for HIV testing, can we write ELISA test for HIV in PN?

2.I saw from first aid that the patient acts by moving the shoulder up and does not breathe. I was of the notion that most of the lung, heart examination will be normal. Is that possible to hear decreased breath sounds if the patient is asked to do like that?

Thanx!

1. don't know if you should write it without asking... great way to advoid that is just making sure you ask consent for testing...
2. if it's obvious thats a sign you should find on PE then go with it... most SP's will not have significant findings on PE...
