27. A 12-year-old girl is brought to the physician by her mother because she is concerned about her daughter's difficulty making friends and socializing. Her development and adjustment had been normal until 6 months ago when she began to refuse to use restrooms at school or eat in the cafeteria. Her mother describes her as a quiet, serious child who does not readily interact with other people. Her teachers report that her concentration varies; at times, she appears to be daydreaming. On examination, she is reserved but pleasant and appears to be of normal intelligence. Her speech is normal in rate and rhythm. She says that she is concerned that her voice will fail her if she has to read aloud in class. Which of the following is the most likely diagnosis?

A ) Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, inattentive type
B ) Autistic disorder
C ) Expressive language disorder
D ) Oppositional defiant disorder
E ) Selective mutism
F ) Social phobia
G ) Age-appropriate behavior

I would say social phobia this is characterized by marked anxiety provoked by social or performance situations. The management is desensitization through incremental exposure to the feared object or situation

  #4

F ) Social phobia

Why not G, Age appropriate behavior; She doesn't use bathroom and doesn't eat in the cafeteria; but 6 moths ago she did those all. More so Social Phobia is related to marked anxiety provoked by social or performance situations. She doesn't wanna real a loud in the class may be not because she has phobia, may be age appropriate shyness.

My answer is F. social phobia.

"She says that she is concerned that her voice will fail her if she has to read aloud in class."
This tells us she is anxious about doing something in front of people, performance anxiety.
