currant jelly sputum for k pnuemonia

most common cause of pneumonia in alcoholics is S. pneumonia but upper lobe involvement with necrotizing features on CXR and thick red currant jelly like bloody sputum is a feature of K. pneumoniae...
thickened due to large mucoid colonies of kleb as it has a large capsule.
