how important is clinical research and observership. when programs dowload your application, does the program director go straight to research? scores? who wrote lor's? my scores are low, 78 part one and two. will doing research and observership help? do i have a chance? if i get a lor from a prominent physician who is known nationally, does the program ever read it, or do they see low scores and just throw application away? dont know what to do, losing hope. thanks for help

Research and observership will both help ...Both arre important ..LOr from prominent physician will help tremendously ...Of course some programs will discard the application by looking at the scores but some programs will give more credence to your lor than to your scores ...
Your job is to do whatever you can and apply widely ..By no means your low scores put you out of the race ..you stand a chance ,definitely ...be hopeful...

That is a very common mistake, do not apply widely, apply WISELY, apply to those programs that you fulfill the requirements. Don't assume that because you have a great score in CK but a bad one on step 1, you will be considered in a "85 and above" program.

Don't waste you time and money that way. Call the programs and inquire about their requirements. If you don't fulfill any of those requirements. DON'T APPLY THERE!!!! invest your resources somewhere else.

Good luck

From my experience--by applying wisely you will save money, but by applying widely you will definitely add atleast a handful more interviews to your list--the downside being that it turns out to be a lil more expensive. So--do your research--find out those 'WISE' programs and add a few more 'WIDE ' programs. Add those 'benefit of doubt' and 'I would kill to be there' programs. GL.

Now answering your real que--good programs look at the whole application and the shallow ones look at only the scores. So fingers crossed, hope for the best.
