Actually CINIII: -Hypomagnesemia DOES indeed cause hyperreflexia (http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic274.htm) -The Paget's Dz section in First Aid mentions that Paget's has NORMAL CALCIUM (p. 98 5th Edition). Paget's Dz as a cause of hypecalcemia is mentioned in the table in the hypercalcemia section (p.360), because that table pretty much lists every possible cause of hypercalcemia! (Notice that Vitamin A is in there, but how many times have you heard of hypercalcemia as a result of excess Vit A?). And so yes in certain scenario's Paget's can indeed cause hypercalcemia, but in such cases it's a result of immobilization in the setting of Paget's. (http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic2998.htm) Of note...one HUGEEE mistake in FA is in p.142. FA says that SAAG = ascities albumin - serum albumin. It's actually serum albumin - ascities albumin.

The only time i recall UW relating Mg to reflexes is when it talks about Mg toxicity when treating eclampsia, and how Mg toxicity can cause decreased tendon reflexes. (Mind you that i'm only 50% through UW) The passage you read might have been a typo, because emedicine (as well as the other UW Q that i just mentioned about Mg toxicity) both mention that Hypo-Mg causes hyperreflexia, and hypER-Mg causes hyporeflexia. If you can quote a reliable source that supports UWorld's claim, then i'm more than happy to learn it right and to be corrected! I stick with emedicine though.

UW mentions that hypomag. causes areflexia and hypocalcaemia causes hyperreflexia.its in of the qts where pt receives massive BTs. i can write the qt no.,but it will be difficult for u to find that particular qt among2100 others. well we have different sources....... wont u think it would've been better in chimp.....if P would 've stood fpr Prolonged immobility, its difficult to have an idea why FA would mention that.never mind we all have out fallies!
