I gave step1 in april....... had already applied for step2 when I got my step1 score.I've got a lowly 179 in it and am in a bad fix now. I plan to give step2 first now and then give step 1 again. Is it the right thing to do?How long shall i take for step 2 now.My slot is aug-sep-oct.Please advice me how i should take things now on and also how I should plan my studies. In my step1 failed attempt,I'd done kaplan notes twice, kaplan q bank and first aid.Had done dvds once except path and physio which I did twice. Please give your advice as need it badly. Is it the right thing to do to take step 2 now?i\I feel for it coz i\I can't study step 1 all over again just now. But honestly speaking I feel too put down and depressed after my score report that I feel I'm good for nothing.I feel as if I'l never be able to make it through. It is my first failure in life and its hard to take it.I've never been a very studious person in my life, and got good results with minimal hard work all my life, but this time i failed.though this was one exam I really put a lot of effort into. Freinds and seniors, please guide me through this situation.

dear SOS, have confidence in urself, trust me thats the only secret of life! i'd suggest ,prepare for stp 1 again, and have confidence.easier said than done, but trust me studying for MLE has tought most of us that the only clue to pass this exam is to have confidence in urself(am not saying studying hard doesnt have to do anything)but u must've seen urself that things u've read with a free mind is remembered than with tension . what i dont know is how u can extend step 2 slots ,can u just waive it off,or u need to give money everytime u extend it. trust me ,even ppl with 76 have gone in to residency, ofcourse they worked harder in some other ways....... so look at the things in ur life that r still around.thank them, gather ur strength and start again. we all have untapped potentials yet to be discovered .

Thanks CINIII for your reply. AS for giving step 1 again before step2,I don't know.I think I'm not ready to go over it all over again. As I said earlier thaT I'd already applied for step 2 CK before my score came. And so I thought of going with the same and writing step 2 first.IT is possible to do that,is it not?I meant there is no rule saying that we can't do it is it? And considering that I will be giving step 2 first ,please advice how i should prepare for it.What study material should I follow? Dear members, please take out some time to help me out,I really need it.

hey sos, dont feels bad, I was in the same situation as you. I took step 1 and failed, but had already register for step 2 CS. So, I decided to take the CS first and passed. Then, I took step 2 CK and passed and ....then took the step 1 last. It does not matter which order you take as long as you are preparing for it. Based on my experience, I found that step 2 help alot for step 1. Take a week or 2 off and rethink your strategy. Good luck studying.

neo24, If you have just graduated from medical school, then step 1 is probably easier for you to begin since the basic science is still fresh. But, if you in clinical clerkship, then go for step 2. Step 1 preparation. 1. Kaplan notes, supplement Goljan note for PATHOLOGY (do not do kaplan pathology - it's suck) 2. kaplan DVD (A MUST), it follow the note and explained it 3. Usmleworld (A MUST), use it as a learning tool 4. Kaplan Qbank/Qbook 5. First Aids (the bible), make sure to write down note while listening to DVD and do question in the FA 6. Lastly do NBME to see where you stand NOTE: stick to 1 note and know it cold, DO NOT listen to people and jump back and forth between note. Step 2 preparation 1. Kaplan note 2. Kaplan DVD (A MUST) 3. Crush (very high yield) 4. Usmleworld 5. Kaplan Qbook/Qbank 6. NBME question Make a schedule and stick to it, it's going to be hard in the beginning but once you get it going, it's gonna be easier. After making a calender, set a date for the exam

Since you were close in your step 1 attempt.....I recommend that you study for step 1 again and take it after the nbme shows you have a good score. Dont rush to take exams...postpone step 2ck is my opionion. I truly believe you can do it....have faith and good luck.

dr Dove thanks for replying to my post. i think i'l go with step 2ck first as i can't go over step1 so soon again.i think i need a break before i read it all over again.and moreover i've already paid up for step 2. but now i'm getting confused again.some of my friends say, giving step2ck first will help me........... i've started step 2 prep already.its getting difficult for me...... please advice me how to go about step 2 prep.honestly speaking ,after facing one failure i'm not at all prepared to face it again so soon.i'm in a real mess.i think considering the state i'm in its better for me to give step2.
