ok....this may seem a silly question but just wanted to make sure grin.

Do we have to button up over white coat or can we leave it unbuttoned?? Can we wear ring or do we have to take off our ring?

THanxs.

personal preference...
i didn't button my coat... i feel more comfortable with it open... it depends on you...
my suggestion - do whatever makes you look more professional - gives a good impression to the SP...

I would say keep it buttoned... It looks more professional for the exam.

No flashy or large hanging jewelry. Small stuff is fine... Basically, it shouldn't scratch or harm the patient in any way, and shouldn't get in the way of your physical exam.

Should I wear a medical student white coat or doctors long coat??

  #7

Whichever you choose... at my exam the AMGs were wearing short coats and most IMGs were wearing long ones...

Does it matter if the lab coat has your name stitched above the uper pocket, or should I wear a plain lab coat without my name on it??

If you have a hard to pronounce last name, should you introduce yourself as:
Dr.FirstName?

I am not sure about your name... but most of the AMGs brought their school coat which had their school emblem on it... the proctors gave them white stickers to cover them... so if your name is a problem they will do the same for you...

doesn't matter about the pronunciation of your name - i would use it - the SPs will call you doctor anyway... what matters is you introduce yourself and remember to use the SP's name a couple of times during the exam...

Thanks coca-cola.

Regarding using the patient's name--- When we first enter we have to make sure its the right patient so do we say: Mr. Jones? and pause to see if he responds and THEN introduce ourselves? OR do we just say: Hello Mr. Jones, my name is Dr.___. ???

hey I think both are acceptable.. you can make sure if its right pt... but since this is not real pt interaction..& we do have their name on door.. we could just go ahead & introduce ourselves.... any other ideas?
