I have read that it can be used... but if you have any doubts just look at the CS protion of the USMLE cd... it has the list of approved abbreviations for the exam...
good luck!

Hi kity,
I also had the same concern. I have seen these used in FA and Kap, but some are not on the approved list.
The only helpful advice I can give is that remember that doctors who work in the US will be grading the note, so they are used to these kind of abbreviations and will recognize them, especially used in context of the physical. Using the ones you mentioned shouldn't be a problem, but then again if it's not on the approved list we can't be 100% sure of this.

yes i am finished with the exam...
i did use some of those abbreviations... but not all...
agreed with Drvirgo - if they are familiar and widely used they will be recognized by the graders... nod

hi dr virgo

youare right, but was just expecting some reassurance. I f some kind soul who gave exam could just let us know.. it will save lots of space & time in PN.

will have to wait till exam day to be sure if that's in their list..confused

You don't have to wait till exam day. Just look at the USMLE CD or go to the site. They have provided a list of the approved abreviations. GL! smiling face

they have clearly said that list contains SOME of abbreviations which could be used in exam as PN WILL BE EXAMINED BY PHYSICIANS & THEY WILL RECOGNIZE GENERAL ABB USED IN us hospitals
