well, the match process is definitely getting tougher every year so you should just start your step 1 prep asap and then take your step 2 so that you can match by 2009 or else you'll be matching in 2010. its getting more competitive every year!

don't know how well prep goes with a house job.. others will probably be able to advise you better. i think the prep is not easy and needs as much time as you can give it.

its a Simple argument with u DAD Ask th eRecent Passing %age of FCPS which has declined over th epast few yrs and then he can understand if the FCPS is getting harder then STEP 1 is gonna be a killer.
Regarding House Job i will advise u to do it with ur full sincerity cos thats the only period where u can actually get ur concepts applied. U have a Choice if u r oreinted n HELL bent coming to America or have a Green card or US passport then dont do ur HJ simply Sit down n go for STep 1 but if thats not the case then Simply Do UR HJ n in the last 6 mnths start ur prep for FCPS part 1 n give it after that u will need an extra one or 2 mnths of prep for Step 1 ( the Basics r Essentially the same for both FCPS n Step 1). In that way u have a door available to u in Pakistan if in case America doesnt work out for some reason. then u give ur sTep 2.

i think doing house job is important if unfortunately u wont get the visa( which can be one possibility), so it will atleast save u from the fact that u have to do the house job, and I tell u 1 year wont matter at all if u have good scores than u ll get resonable reidency. concenterate on getting good score and do yours house job.

you could get your exams out of the way and do a housejob if you don't get the visa. i know lots of people who did that.

i did my complete fully dedicated housejob and i think it was a wonderful decision! now when i study PE or DIC i have in back of my mind the patient i saw and perhaps treated. so housejob and a tough one will help you gain alot. you can start off after your housejob or even during ur housjob but i found it litterally impossible to study coz the duties were very tough only a few houseofficers in busy units. rezaaa (255-99) here on this forum completed his HJ and after 5-6 months managed to score a 99. so it all depends on person to person and priorities,

I agree with NNL 100%. If you have US Status or an American spouse-to-be don't do House job stick to USMLE and go there asap. Otherwise DO IT RELIGIOUSLY you will learn a lot and try to keep your eyes and mind open doing it. Do FCPS (although it has no value in Pakistan and in Gulf) if you can't afford MRCP. Do house job in surgery and medicine. In this situation keep USMLE as a side business. My sincere advice to you as younger brother/sister!

HI first of all if i would recommend u ,not to do house job ,kindly one of my request from the forum administrator,kindly kick me from here as soon as possible because i m guiding wrong where people want to take sincere and alturistic replies .bhai do housejob ,okk and at the same time start a little bit preparation and crack it .but do it .takecare and all the best
