I have a couple of questions. First off, I'm currently doing USMLE World questions and not doing well at ALL.. also doing Kaplan now so hopefully my scores will go up in the next week or so. Does anyone know how well you need to be scoring on UW exams to pass Step I? Also, how is Step I really graded? Thanks in advance! C

Based on other people's experience, I'd say that 50% would be a reasonable number.

to just pass, 50%...you can do this formula also,,2.3xUW%+80 or 70.

do you guys think that we should do UW while doing the preparation or when we are done with the course? is it helpful to do when you know very little? and does it help you in deciding where you stand before studying vigorously?or should we save it for later when we know something about everything?
i can't decide when to start it,please explain!

supposedly w/ the above uw formula & to beat clearly the small curve that'll u'll fail u should get 56% to be exact..

gizmo, in my opinion UW is an aid helpful since the beginning. But you should be careful!!! If you're very sensitive to low scores (because this will happen if you haven't studied the subject), don't use it early. I know people that simply went crazy with scores in the low 40s and have given up their project...
The message is: if you will use UW earlier, expect low scores. In case you have a lot of time, maybe you can wait for a while. I had to prep for 2 CK in one month, so I couldn't wait. Now, I am preparing for Step 1 in 5 weeks, same case. But this is not the usual prep.
I hope I didn't contribute to confuse your mind...

even i agree to this....
when u have read kaplan like 3 times( to be minimum), then u can expect a 50% or so score on the UW. u'll also come to know some points which u forgot to stress upon, n ur weak areas.... the best is if u get to re do it after a revision, but for tht u have to take the UW for atleast 60 days.... but if u have the time, i guess its worth it.
