Do we have to decide one method for ALL the notes? or can we write some and type others?

I think my typing and writing speed are the same. And my handwritting is legible.
What do you all suggest?

no we cd write sm notes n type others...but once u decide fr a particular note...u cannot change.i personally chose to write as the writing size can b decreased to get more space to (within the legible limit).but u cd choose any...

When do we have to decide if we want to write it or type it? Before we go in the room or afterwards?

I hope I understood it well, do you say that if you write PN in the first case, then you should write for all the cases and you can not type?
If thats what you said, then its not true. I personally changed the method after the 3rd case. I opted for typing in the first 3 cases, it was very uncomfortable for me so I strted to write the PN from 4th to the end.

you decide whether to type or to write at the end of each encounter , just before the beginning of the PN part for that particular encounter, but once you start typing they take the sheet with them where you write the PN. So you can decide to type for all the even number of cases ( odd numbers if you so choose) or write. grin
just kidding, so you will have to decide what you will do for each case and you dont have to tell the proctors, they keep an eye on everybody, so if you start typing they will take away your paper.

great if you got to change...
but on my exam you you had to do one or the other... sure of that...

once yu start typing and after yu have finished, do we save it or print it? i mean, what are the options? i am taking my step 2 CS in july.
and doc179 and cocacola, wud it make a difference if your exam centre's were different. i mean all of the centre's should have a uniform policy but maybe this cud be the reason for your different experiences.
and do they give us a booklet to write in which is collected at the end of the day or seperate sheets for each case which are collected by proctors at the end of each case?
doc179, while typing does the screen have a fixed format and are we just supposed to fill in all details or we write everything even the topics like history, examinations and sub topics in the history section etc

This is what I was told:

If you type it, you have to submit the entry.
If you write it, the proctors collect the papers after each note.

rock, you should click submit when you type the PN and you dont have to print it.
No, I dont think the rules are different in different centers, just to confirm I did call one of my friends who took the exam in Atlanta and I took the exam in Houston, and she also confirmed to me that she was allowed to decide for each case PN. Now I would not know what happens in Philly, LA and Chicago cos I dont have anymore friends who took the exam in any of the other centers , just kidding, no offense to anybody. smiling face
yes, you get 12 sheets to write on during th encounter and each sheet is collected by the proctor after finishing the PN for that case.
Rock, the screen will have 4 sections, as far as I can remember, it will be a year now this july since I took CS. So I am little hazy about the details. first for the chief complaint and its details, second for the history ( I think you have to write the subtopics ), 3rd and 4th each have 5 lines or spaces enough to write the DD and work up. Its not like a word document. When you type it counts your number of letters or spaces left to type ( like in sms where you can type only a fixed number of letters ) and then you would not see the whole thing when you type as you type the previous ones move up out of your sight and you have to scroll down to see what you have written in the previous lines, just like the " post a quick reply " thingy here in the forum where I am typing right now.
All of this made me so uncomfortable, I could adjust my font size when I was writting and I could make use of the smallest space left in the paper when I was writing and hence I switched to write instead of typing it after the 3rd case.smiling face

  #16

thanks so much doc179 and drvirgo...doc179, yu really made it absolutely clear on what to expect in the exam.thanks buddy.

  #17

you are most welcome and GL to all of you for the CS.

  #18

If you make an error while writing what is the proper way to correct it? Cross out the word, or put a line through it? We can't use pencil and erase, correct? Thanks.

What if we forget to mention something... Can we use this: ^ and write it above the line?

Try not to make mistakes so that you dont have to think about correcting it, but yes everyone does it, I did it too...I just put a line across the word and corrected my mistake. and when I forgot to write something I did use " ^ " but I tried to be as careful and legible as possible.

hey doc179!

DO U MEAN WE ONLY GET 12 PAPERS TO WRITE NO EXTRA TO SCRIBBLE????I heard from that we get a sheet when we enter the pt room and the that is to scribble while taking the hx and the other one which is final paper with format as given in FAand UW for writing Pt notes.

Please reply

thanks

  #21

yes you get 12 blue sheets to scribble and the other 12 white sheets each will be given to you to write the PN at the end of each case. No extra sheets other than these. and after the completion of the PN they will collect both the blue( where you scribbled for that particular case ) and the white ( where you wrote the PN for that case ) sheets. Hope I answered your qn.
12 blue sheets are given to you at the beginning itself, the white sheets will be on your table when you come out of the room ( you get it one at a time )
