what is the difference between type B chronic atrophic gastritis (which is in the atrum and pylorus due to H pylori) and peptic ulcer disease?

is chronic atrophic gastritis type B just a long term effect of gastric PUD???

type B gastritis and PUD are both caused by H.pylori.

long-standing type B gastritis will eventually lead to gastric CA.

complications of PUD are hemorrhage, obstruction, and perforation.

if it's gastric ulcer it can eventually lead to gastric CA. duodenal ulcers are never malignant.

also, type B isn't atrophic as you've written. as far as my understanding is of chronic gastritis, type A is atrophic--there's mucosal atrophy with loss of glands and parietal cells mainly due to the autoimmunity that develops in this type.

type B is known as "H.pylori gastritis". that's what causes it. H.pylori are seen in the mucous layer of the surface epithelium and there's chronic inflammation with lymphoid follicles.

in goljan rapid review, he calls it "chronic atrophic gastritis type B"

i am confused as what it looks like.... is it a bunch of ulcers & atrophy due to h.pylori whereas with PUD its just one ulcer?
