Kaplan Qbank USMLE

hello guys, just got my score. it is 236-99!!! so so happy.

Have been preparing for 13 months, very seriously 4-5 months.

the test was much easier than i thought. but made a lot of stupid mistakes. not actually stupid, but because i do not know some basic knowledge well. after the test, remember many questions wrong confirmed by checking books and website. hope to get above 90. will be happy with anything above 90. so never expect so much.God has magic power!

should have done much better if i have not changed answers in questions i am not sure. My intuition is right, but i changed my answer because i am not sure. at least 10 questions got wrong because of this. So guys, do not change answer unless you are very sure(you misread something the first time). believe in your intuition.

did kaplan q bank, scored 64% cumulative(about 4 months before test)

UW cumulative 65%, 70 percentile. The last 10 blocks all aiming middle to late 70s(about 1.5months before)

did not do NBME since i do not want to change test date even if do bad on it, aiming for 2008 match.

used kaplan notes, goljan for pathology, robin review(question book), high yield for anatomy, histology, neuroanatomy and embryology.

I think 5-6 months( i am doing full time job) is enough if seriously and consistently study.

In the real test, pathology, pharmacology, physiology heavily tested, then microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, genetics, behavioral science. did not meet alot of weired genetics or mol biology questions.5-6 one line question. most questions are staight forward.

sorry quys, i am too excited. excuse me for the unorganized thread.

happy to anwer any questions.

Please reply.

Guys thank you so much.

praying4a99, I think my exam is not hard as most people say.most questions are straightforward. After the test, I even thought the guys are making test easier because AMG are doing bad on the previous UW level tests. Other people who took tests on the same days(or close) had the same "easiness" feeling as I did. So do not worry.

Sancardio, all the best with your score! I remember one guy in the forum said" with hard work and praying, no one will not get answered". So pray and have confidence and you will be rewarded.

I took test on april23, oasis updated may 16th, get score on may 22th.

my exam seems easy, although as i said, i made many stupid mistakes. I think in block 1 and 4, i did really well, i thought i did 40 of 50 surely correct. The 5th block is miserable, I remember I was not sure about 10 of the first 20 questions. It really made me upset, and the other blocks, i think i did 30/50 sure right. maybe. Some difficult genetics questions, i just skip it(i get really bad performance in this subject). smiling face do not want to waste time on something i will never know.

This part im just not getting!, i have read this previously in other exam experiences : (many dumb mistakes) and some other things. What im not getting here is: how with so many mistakes, still getting 99s??? Now, dont understand me wrong!, i wish you nice guys 99s as i wish it for my self but with many mistakes how can this be possible? or you think you had mistakes but all of them ended up being pure right??!!!confused

hi praying4a99,

the questions i did wrong were confirmed by answers. I mean, i looked up in books and website and found the right anser. so it is not the feeling, it is the truth. I think if i did not make these stupid mistakes, i will get at least 250-99gringrin

I think I was very calm during the test although my hands are shivering during the break. My brain is very clear and works well. unlike the time i did GRE, i did not know what I was doing till i finished the test.

the stupid mistakes i made was because i did not know the basics very well. so i changed anwers because i have enough time to review the questions(10smin left each block). My suggestion is believe in your intuition, do not change answers unless you are very sure.

good luck with your test!

Hi ,yl, congratulations for your high score. I just start my USMLE. Which combination of studying materials would you highly recommend?? Thanks. Good luck on the following exams.

  #21

Congratulation yl .

Can you explian in detail of your study as time frame of non serious to serious study months with how long, hr, page per day or subj per week etc , with which Q from which read to how many review, repeat of kap LN, golj , Q etc.
Since if no web picture study, I also have chosen same, similar study material as you've done.

So any need to or you include in your study by web study for MRI, CT, pathophysio from net eg common one net anatomy, web path, etc.

One IMPORTANT Q, how do you manage to be calm, with clear conscious alert quick answer the Q mind with extra 10 min, all the time without like your GRE, or most of us has our exm experince in case of time pressure with long complicated Q & not know what's going on in Q with what you're doing like that .

Golj which one you've use ? Live prep too or just 500 page, any text 2007 RR patho Golj too with audio or not & how many review with or without audio .

For HY you'd used , do you read all or just some to add to kap LN & how many review HY, kap LN with dvd .

Congratulation again, Good Luck in your next one.
Wish you 250 & morenodnod

hi hope99.9998,

i have been writing the experience for more than half hour, then my computer crashed.sadsad

will post it soon.

I am coming back again.

I prepared for 13 months, seriously 5months. My first read is very unorganized as I read behavioral science, immunology, microbiology and histology three to four times continously untill I feel I almost mastered that subject. then i read physiology once with some chapters twice, pathology (Galojan 460page rapis review) once with brs general pathology part as complement, at the same time i did questions in robbins review(2 edition). general anatomy once, did not read neuroanatomy because i feel too difficult to me. did not read embryology because i think it is low yield. read biochemistry and genetics twice continously. as pharmacology , i did not even finish first aid once. But even i did not prepare pharma very well, after i did kaplan q bank and UW, it turns out that these are more than enough in the real test. During the first read, i will study 1-2hr to 5-6 hrs every day, 3-5days everyweek. sometimes i will set up 50 pages target, i think it is reasonable for the first read. so it is really not consistent and efficient. I will recommend others read all subjects once or twice, then go ahead with q bank.

after this complicated first read, I did kaplan q bank. From then on, I studied very hard. I will study5-6hrs per night on week days. on weekends I will study 10-12 hrs. i only took two days off to relax during this 4 months. i did not do kaplan q bank very well(64%), especially in those subjects i did not prepare very well. I also found I scored very low in pathology. Then I read pathology thoroughly again, read twice in some chapters. read anatomy again, read a little embryology, read neuroanatomy very carefully, also part of biochemistry and genetics.

then i did UW. I performed much better now. Had a big improvement in pathology and anatomy, i think. I did 7 blocks simulation test three times, scored 70s in the last 10 blocks.I felt much comfortable now.

When I am doing q bank, i will make notes and revise it next morning when i took my train to work. i also like to review all the questions I did in the day when I am lying in bed before going to sleep. It keeps a lot of concepts fresh and improves memory. I highly recommend it. in the last one and a half week, i only revise the notes.

I did not experience panic before the test, although i did not do NBME. since i did pretty well in UW, I was feeling comfortable. The night before test, i thoguht i will have no problem to go to sleep, but I did. I slept for about 5 hrs, but waked up fresh.

I think the main reason why i stayed so cool and had a clear mind during the test is I was confident. I never worried about pass. (sometimes I saw people scores 70s% in UW, and worry about pass, it is just ridiculous!) the other reason is because i did simulation test three times, and i know i will manage the time and energy without problem.

I usually had about 10min left in the UW. As I said, the real test was not as hard as UW at all. most questions are straightforward. I also had a clear mind, so I read and did very fast. I skipped a few complicated genetics questions and performed low in this subject.

I used part of the webpath, not all of them. I used neuro, histology, tutoring part of webpath and another website. I have the website in my office computer, will poster it tomorrow.

I did not use kaplan DVD. I used Galjan audio for pathology, highly recommend. it covers not only pathology, a lot more than that.

I think with hard work and praying, everyone can get a 99. It is not difficult at all.

Good luck with your study and test, hope99.998, wishing you a 99.smiling face
