1. If a person is previously immunized and there has been a documented response to the Hep B vaccine---the person now has a needle stick injury from a pt w/ Active Hep B SAg-----what is the next step??

2. If a person is previously immunized and there has been no documented response to the Hep B vaccine----the person now has a needle stick injury from a pt w/ Active Hep B SAg --what is the next step???

3. if a person has not been immunized to Hep B and there is a needle stick injuryfrom a pt w/ Active Hep B SAg --what is the next step??

options are the same for the 3 qts---

A---- administer HBIg
B---- administer Hep B Vaccine
C---- administer Vaccine and HBIg
D---- Reassurance
E---- test for Anti HBSAg

Explain ur reasoning

1.- D ) Reasurrance ( because response is documented .... so no risk of having the disease

2.- B ) administer Hep B Vaccine ( No documentation of response , just give VACCINE )

3 .- C ) administer Vaccine and HBIg ( this dude is Big time at risk so you give him both vaccine and Immunoglobin )

doclaire, why not C for #2, since there has been no documented response (he may or may not have, which we don't know) ???

I understand your point doyoudig !

In this case they assume that his risk is not as high as a dude who did not get vaccinated at all At least he is already immunized even if there is documented responsed so I think giving him the vaccine without the immunoglobin would be ENOUGH in this case
