Nephrotic wrote: thanks guys for help , but how can i convince the consulate to give me long period ????? and is there any factors influencing the officer of entry to determine my period of stay ???? thanks in advance tell him honestly why you would need 6 months ...have documents to bolster your case ...I landed in usa without an address to go to ...i had a 35 minute discussion with the officer and asked him for 6 months ...he gave it in the end ...so before the officer stamps your time allowance let him know that you need 6 months/...by default they do it for 3 m onths .

well, everybody says they're 6 months. So it could be usually like this. I don't know why but I got this visa for taking this 2cs and anything I might need in the US (observerships, etc) and they gave it to me for 10 years. good luck, I guess or something related with the NAFTA (canada-usa-mx).

You are right chemamr... I got a 10 year B1/B2, the visa lasts for 10 years, but the lenght of each stay in the US under that visa will be determined by the border officer with a max of 6 months... you can come and go as much as you want for 10 years

The duration of visa is on I-94 card and maximuly is 6 months. If you want to stay more, you have to apply for visa extension which can be another 6 months. You cannot hold B status more than ONE year.

U got it right Isther... and as amirhossein post u can extend up to a year. Although in rare cases if you enter with a letter from an institution or explanatory letter from US they can give you 1 year on B status right from the start.
