a 7-year old girl brought to the hospital by woman who entrusted her care while the girls parent are in Mexico for vacation . the girl has sustained a non life threatening but serious injury during play that almost completely severed one of her finger of left hand. The consensus of the physicians is that with promt action the finger can be reattached with minimal pemanent loss of movement for the child. However the attending physician is concerned about proceeding without the permission of parents. The best course of action wud be to
A- try contact the parents to get their permission to perform the procedure.
B- seek a legal injuction allowing the operation
C- operate at once, citing the doctrine of theraputic privilage
D-seek further consent for the operation from the woman in whose care the girl was left.
E- seek further confirmation from additional specialists in this type of surgery.

got that but its not an emergency, wouldnt it require consent of atleast her care taker....
i also had the same answer but the Q had 2 different answers at 2 different places...
i was though satisfied by the second answer that if the caretaker is present and its not and an emergency why not go for the consent.
still confused
if u r sure plz let me know...

O definitely .. !! Limb saving / Finger saving !! ... Especially when in the question they have told us that .. PROMPT action will reserve proper function ... !!!

So I'd go for C!!

i agree with what mytime, addicudo and nnl said...i think it is a limb saving procedure without which the child will end up with some kinda permanent disability...so i would go for C too...and they have said prompt so i guess the doc should begin the procedure right away and even trying to call on their cell phone(that is if they have taken one) is not what the examiners want yu to do...they dont want yu thinking about those other possibilities anyways...i think the answer is C.

u all right....last night i read what i missed when i was going thru behav science notes...
it clearly states
"parents cannot withhold life or limb saving treatment from their children"
that means in any such case never wait for parents to come or even if they refuse to give consent one go ahed with the surgery....yes these two conditions are clearly mentioned.
thanks to all...
