metranidazole is most important drug to remember..becos alcoholics are prone todevelop amoebic liver abscesses...for which iv metronidazole is the treatment of choice :shock:

TINIDAZOLE
PROCARBAZINE.
and RITONAVIR has the reverse effects ,it contains ALCOHOL, so reacts with DISULFIRAM and like drugs to produce the same reaction.

cause is not clearly known..some studies find a correlation between hepatic iron overload in chronic alcoholics and amoebic liver abscess..

this link says out of 100 amoebic liver abscess patients 70 % were alcoholics and 21%were diabetics..
