Hey there So yeah, Im lost. I odnt know where to start or what to do. It feels like I have been reading the same subject (Physio) for 2 years now. I know its an important class but I can't seem to get past it. I registered for my USMLE Step 1. My window is for Sept-Nov. I dont wanna delay the exam. I want to write it in Sept, but I feel like Im going toooooo slow. And the reason i feel that way is cuz I dont know what to study. Im doing Kaplan right now but I feel like Im going too slow. How do I speed up the process. I haven't even done my first read yet, I haven't done any questions, or the first aid. Will I have time for all of that? Please let me know what to study. How should I make my schedule so I can get atleast 2 reads in, along with questions and the FA and Golijan? I don't wanan fail this exam. Apart of has myself all stressed out so maybe thats why I can't concentrate. And then a part of me feels like Im learning this stuff for the first time. I odn tknow what to do. Does anyone else feel like that? If anyone can help me I would really apprecaite it. Thanks a lot in advance.

u r rite...nobody wants to fail... i was in a sort of emotional breakdown bcos of personal setback abt a year ago.then i started preparing for step 1 but my 1st reading took too long(started in may2006)...my second reading began in abt nov-dec...well i did Qs properly from dec 06...did a few more readings n took my step 1 on feb07.guess what???????????i failed.yes.what do u learn from this sad tale? 1.dont take too long to read. 2.solve many Qs...as many as u can. 3.get out of personal setbacks..they just give u pains n make ur life more miserable...then a chain starts...1 after the other....u see? 4.i was very anxious abt the result...when i was studying for the exam.really badly stressed up.n see what i got?so just shun the stress. so what i learnt? 1.stop worrying for the result now.it makes no sense. 2.approx it takes a week or 2 to finish each subject.(the ones in vich u r strong is faster n vice versa) so judge urself(this nobody can do) 3.atleast do 1 reading before u can jump on Qs.then its mixed in middle(some reading some Qs) then its just Qs at the end(somebody adviced me this now) 4.keep evaluating.i didnt do that at all the last time. 5.set ur targets but dont compromise with concept(i did that too!!!!) 6.read ur basic text 1st then u can finish FA in 4-5 days(my mistake?i didnt revice it properly) 7.as for now im reading everything all over again.its painful at times but thatz it.thatz what i can do best.try n try again. 8.hav faith in THE ALMIGHTY.HE knows everything even if u dont.(so no need to panic if u forget something!!!) always remember 1 thing:u r the best judge for urself. anything else? lemme know gl

my simple advice! dont freak out - delay ur exam and take ur exam. It doesnt matter if you loose one year than to fail or score very low. take it slow USMLE is not an easy exam that u think you will pass by going thru ur books only once. I finished physio in 1 1/2 months, and the same for almost all subjects! i started my prep in jan and my first read will finish in a month or 2. take it easy

Thank you soooo much KHOX and INKSPOT Yur replies mean alot. khox: Thank you for shring yur experience with me. It can teach a person a lot. Ill try not to make the same mistakes you did. I agree with you when you say that I have to stop thinking about the result. I think thats why I freak myself out. I dont want to fail. But in order to prevent that I know I have to study ahrd and study it well. inkspot: Thanks for the reassurance. I know that I can't learn everything about a subject in just a short period of time. I know some subjects are gonna take me longer than the others, so I guess Im gonna have to just suck it up and give it the time it requires. This is my plan now: 1) Do my first read 2) Start on questions and do an NBME exam just to see where I stand after my frist read 3) Register for a q-bank (one which tells me where Im lacking, and what my strong points are) 4) Start my second read, and focus more on my weak points along with revise the rest of the material 5) Continue doing questions while doing my second read 6) Once the second read is done, try another NBME to see if there is any improvement 7) Do LOTS of questions, have my FA down, do one more NBME 8) Pray to God I pass 9) Finally........go tackle the exam 10) Wait for my result What do you guys think............? Again thank you soooooo much for replying to my post. It truely means a lot and you guys have no idea how much I appreciate it. Goodluck to all of you, and I hope we all do really well. Ill keep you guys posted on my progress.

you don't have to worry... just start working hard and you'll automatically feel the reward - even if you do a page in a day. don't waste time. seems to me like you're a perfectionist like me. remember - the first read doesn't have to be perfect! its more for familiarisation. memorisation comes later!

nochoice......thanks soooo much for the motivation. I really do appreciate it. I just completed my Physio and now I am working on Biochem. So far soo good. I am enjoying biochem. The kaplan video lectures are really boring though. I want to finish biochem by June 20 so I can start micro. I dont know what to read for micro though. Any suggestions from anyone? Please do reply. Thanks.
