Hi eveyone.. I started studying ck almost 2 months ago. My plan were reading kaplan books, watching dvds and after each chapter doing uw questions. But I could not. Because I have 6 mo old baby. Anyway. Because I subscribed uw, I just did questions in tutor mode and subject wise and I ended up with 60% What do you think? Actually doing questions first was good for me because It made me more esily engaged with ck. and gave me a better idea about where should I focus on when I will read kaplan books. I don't know, now I am thinking like this but we will see ...

It is such a good score. Mine was around 65-70 and I ended up with a 97/241 score in the exam. From what I've read, people with 50+ score using UW passed. The most important thing, as many people say, is to use UW as a learning tool. In the exam you'll get many questions similar to UW, but it will be easier to pick the right choice because the options are not as picky as in UW. Good luck.

I guess it depends on what you want at the end of the day-If you are aiming for a good score it might be enough- there are posts from people who prepared only using UW and got scores around 87 or in 90s - the point is it can be improved by reading the notes and sort of fine tuning your prep-but on the other hand if 99 scores arent that important for you , I guess you can save time by just taking an NBME and then revising once and give the exam 60s in UW is very good esp considering that you didnt go thru the notes yet-Looks definitely like you have the potential to get a 99 but there are only 24 hours in a day and if you also have other things apart from obesessing over your scores that matter , the choice is yours.. must admit I wouldnt want be making that choice.. may be the other moms out there can add their opinions on how they made that choice

Thank you very much for your replies dncosta and hypomanic. I was planning to catch 2008 match but it seems I can't. Now, I decided to read kaplan books and watch dvds after that Iwill do Kaplan q book, q bank and nbme. Staying at home is not good for studying. there are lots of other things to do and you can't concentrate, easily distracted, and you lose motivation, especially with the baby even harder. But I love my baby, I love taking care of him. Beeing a mom a wonderful wonderful feeling. For me, this post is refreshing. thank you again. I wish good luck for all my colleague, especially for moms..

Ane09: Some times it seems impossible to reach your carrer goals when you have a baby, but trust me ( I have a 2 y/o) if you want it hard enough, you will get it even if it is a little later than you expect. whatever the case. your score in UW is very good. just go for your test and keep focused!

Hi anne!! you posted the perfect post for me!!! I came looking for the same comforting measures of the community!!! I subscribed to UW a week ago, i'm sitting for CK July 21st and in my first test before studying started I scored 60%, failing silly questions and getting others by means of proper guessing (o reasoned guessing). So the question arises as you begin, DO I START WITH GOOD CHANCES? Looks like yes, did you sit for the test already? any other person has a different opinion or something to share???? THANKS FOLKS.

Hi werther, I am glad my post worked for you, too. I have not taken the test yet. I don't feel that I am ready. Are you taking your exam on july 21st? But you said 'before studying I scored 60% in uw'. What is your plan? I mean your exam date is so close and you just started uw and you don't know your total score. Are you going to study only UW? Last question, how do you study the UW? I mean, are you doing it tutor mode or timed mode and random or subject based? Because it changes everything. My total score was 60% when I did it in subject based and tutor mode. I guess if I had done it in timed mode my score might have been at 40s.

Anne, i did that test without the tutor, actually I don't know how that works. I always (since Step 1) did the same thing: 1. Select random from unused questions. 2. Click on all the subjecets and all the sub-subjects. 3. Create. I think that is what works best for me, I get a sample of 50 questions totally random from all the possible areas. So, I don't miss any subject to reinforcing. What I do after the test is go back one by one, right or wrong and understand what I didn't know, or wasn't sure... and reinforce what I already knew. I'm planning to sit for CK July 21st in Coolidge Corner, Boston. However, the first series of 46 questions I took them without the timer, this time. It was the first series you know... What do you think?

Ana, I think we are all at the same page! hehe... Try to test the same way you did with Kaplan with UW... it tends to be more hard to do...

hey wether and anne: I am working on UW questions... I think they are tough... what is a good score on AVG? I feel very stupid... my score so far is 64% seems like I didn't learn anything from kaplan... is the same score... I am concerned of my score not getting any better. Anne when are you taking step2? wether what residency do you want? let's use this topic to keep our motivation up! go moms! for ourselves, and for our kids!

Hi everyone... dranagarcia, 64% is not that bad. UW is a learning tool, it is reinforcing what you read in kaplan. Do NBME to assess yourself in these days because there is not much time left for your examination. Werther, how is the study for UW going? I mean total score. My eligibility period is sep-nov. I am planning to take it in september the first. I wish success for everyone.

Anne, i did one more test yesterday and scored 63%, it's going well... so... I agree is a learning tool. I wish I had some data from anyone about the real test score to correlate to the UW score... Step 1 i used to score 54% average and ended with 86/208 in the real one.
