Hi, Rockngdoctor. I was a silent observer of this forum. I applied for 57 emergency medicine programs, october 16, no response so far except several rejections. I try not to panic. How competitive is EM? What are they looking for except being an american? I also applied for IM. But my passion is EM. I didnt have any EMLOR, but I may send one this week which is not a strong one. My credentials are Step1: 94, Step 2: 90, cs pass, UCSE: 10 mths observership, publication is not in EM, need visa, 3 UsLOR.

My observership and publications ( 4 articles and one presentation) were in ENT but I suddenly decided to follow ER. I learned two lessons, 1) Get strong LORs and I think that is why AMGs have more chance. LORs should be EM and preferably a known one. I had one ER LOR which wasnt strong at all ( dont know enough about her, not sure about her clinical abilities) but it was from a well known doctor. 2) Interview skills. read Isersons guide to residency and practice a lot. 3) The key point is to be really dedicated and really love to go to ER. That shines through you in interviews. I couldnt fool any interviewer that I love IM!! Good Luck to you all
