A 29 year old female describes mild discomfort with sexual intercourse for the past month. A pelvic examination reveals no vaginal discharge, and the cervix appears normal. However, there is a small, slightly tender 2 cm mass in the lateral wall of the vagina. The excised mass is cystic, fluid-filled, and lined by a cuboidal epithelium.

This lesion most likely represents a(an):

A Metastatic adenocarcinoma
B Complication of gonorrhea
C Persistent embryologic remnant
D Result of diethylstilbesterol exposure
E Complication of oral contraceptive use
