RA:- PIP, MCP, cervical, others 1) Osteopenia- increased blood supply washes out calcium 2) Uniform joint space narrowing (cf Osteoarthritis) 3) subluxation (ulnar common) Osteoarthritis:- DIP, First carpometacarpal, weight bearing (spine, hips, knee) 1)Asymmetric narrowing of joint space 2) Subchondral sclerosis 3) Osteophytes and spurs 4) Degenerative cysts Tuberculous:- commonly affects thoracis/lumbar spine(Pott's)- can cause both osteomyelitis and arthritis, erosions(destruction) of the adjacent vertebrae, causing collapse, kyphotic angulation and occasionaly cord compression. Can affect knee/other joints. history, ZN stain of the exudate, microscopy of the synovium for granuloma, giant cells, PPD test, etc to support the diagnosis.
