Hello fellow Docs
i just got my score in the mail.. it is 99/254.. it has sent me to cloud 9 or sorry cloud 99!! i would like to thank everybody on this wonderful forum for their support..
i started preparation on december 11 to be exact.. and gave the exam on april 10.. so 4 months for preparation..
i can tell you one thing from my exam experience that if YOU decide that you want a 99 on this then YOU can definitely get it.. if i can get it so can you..
first thing i did in my preparation on December 11 is to close my eyes pray to God asked for his blessings and then said to myself "Tanmay I want a 99 from you"..
then i embarked on the road to achieve the goal.. i kept my preparation pretty simple and uncomplicated.. i used the following books..
Kaplan for every subject except anatomy
High Yield for Anatomy Neuroanatomy Embryology and Histology
BRS for reading CNS in physiology
and of course
Goljan for pathology in addition to Kaplan
First Aid in my final few days for rapid review of the stuff..
Slides from First Aid Goljan and Harrison for hematology slides
and oh the most important was UW(usmleworld).. i took a 2 month subscription.. Guys UW is really good.. if you can you should do it..
one more thing i thought important was doing questions.. i did questions from my first reading.. did not care if i got them right or wrong on my first reading but the key was to do as many as i could.. doing questions helped me in two ways..
1. it helped my confidence that my preparation was on the right track
and
2.it helped me condition my brain into thinking logically in the right direction when presented with a question..
so docs i would suggest you do as many questions as you can in your prep right from the word go.. from the first review..
i did robbins review pretest series(only some questions) and q book in my first read.. and then UW and kaplan q bank from 2nd reading..
i also did a lot of questions from this forum.. they helped me a lot too..
i would like to thank NNL especially for the wonderful questions posted by him that helped me through my journey.. also thanks to the forum moderators, ancyclostoma, girl interrupted, shalini ravi, gogeta, and all the wonderful people on this wonderful site for all the support and good discussions on the site that helped me motivate myself whenever i felt the batteries were getting discharged.. it helped me keep up on my road trip to the exam..
All the best to all of you Docs who are going to appear in the exam soon and I am sure all of you can do it as you have it in you..

hey jaide.. just be calm and confident and you will do it!! have you given nbme?? its a good tool to see your weak areas for final review in the last few days.. otherwise just review your notes and focus on areas you may need to review more like all the lymphomas drug interactions and biochem reactions and stuff like that.. just be confident and i am sure you will do it!! all the best!!

congrats.
I'm gonna give my step1 in july or at the most 1st week of august.I must do it by then.
I'm still in my first reads due to some unavoiable interruptions.
How should I prepare my rest of my prep?I may need atleast 15-20 days more to complete my first reads.
I want 99.please advise me.

Hey Tanmay,
Congrats on the wonderful score.Bravo!! Most IMGs who write about their 99 experience usually have studied for much longer. Given that , your acheivement in such a short time is very commendable. Can you please tell us how many reads are necessary to be able to get a high score? Also can you give some more details on how your study plan was if you don't mind. Thanks a lot in advance.

hi i just gave about 4 reads.. 3 in some subjects like beh science.. as i was short of time.. the first one took the longest to complete.. but i did a lot of questions in my preparation and now i think that worked in my favour.. do as many questions as you can along with your readings.. that will raise your confidence level when you get questions right and it will also give you an idea what topic is tested more heavily in the questions and what topics are of lesser importance.. do UW and give an nbme test couple of weeks ahead of the exam if possible.. it will be of good help..
