I found the post said" Start residency in Family practice/Internal medicine/ Neurology and then rematch for surgery/dermatology/radiology after finishing PGY 1 (1st year)."

Is it practical? I am finding externship but nowhere response. Is it possible to apply the match 2008 in FP,Neurology to got usce , reseach experience and usLOR and rematch in 2009 in university based IM? Do it affect my profile because of rematching in another specialty? any advice is appreciate.

There was some dicussion in the Match forum about changing after the 1st year but you have to search for the posts- On the whole the opinion was that its very tough esp when you want very competetitive fields- might be possible within the same speciality but in a different location if you can convince your PD - but practically speaking, its not wise to count on it- BBB pointed out that it would be very difficult to attend interviews with your residency -also what would tell your PD??- and that you can be sure that although you might get USCE you cant get Lett of recommendation from the old program

agree with that, that must affect your profile.
