What would be the initial test when gestational trohoblastic disease is suspected?
A Serum hCG level
B Pelvic ultrasound
C Chest X ray

1) Hcg----->2nd)U/S----->3rd CXRAY chking for mets coz lungs is the MC site

Why not go directly to ultrasound?

simple fongch...Your q asked for the INTIAL testing, NOT THE best testing..There is a sequence in which u order tests,when u suspect a pt could be a case of GTD, same for any diseases,for eg:- you dont start of doing an echo on a pt presenting with CHF in the ER, without doing a C-XRAY,though we know echo is the BEST testing for CHF,still we do a cxray first,coz this is less expensive and cost effective,so in case of suspected GTD----> IRST make sure the pt is pregnant,and the intial testing is ALWAYS beta- HCG, and if HCG> 100,000, then proceed with U/S, if it shows some evidence of GTD--->u do a cxray coz lungs is the MC site of mets as i mentioned before

first thing you do is measure uterus size which will be increased
