Extension is provided by the extensors pollicis longus and brevis, which are innervated by the radial nerve. The median nerve supplies the thenar group, which allows the thumb to oppose, flex, abduct, and rotate. The ulnar nerve supplies the adductor pollicis, which adducts the thumb.
