is there a leakage of conjugated billirubin in hepatitis? Coz I always though of dark urine as a sign of obstruction to the flow of direct bil to the bowel!

Hepatitis means inflamtion of liver.Hence all the metabolism of the liver
is disturbed in hepatitis.
One of the metabolic funcion of liver is to excrete bilurubin ,in normal
liver it is done properly.
But in hepatitis is disturbed so some forms of bilurubin pigments appear
in urine giving urine a dark colour.

tnx but I'm talking about DIRECT hyperbiliruninemia

The Liver has amazing regeneration capabilites, in acute inflammation it does not mean that u have destroyed the conjugation capabilites of the Liver so you will still see increas in direct as well as indirect Bilirubin. Unless there is a problem with the Liver enzyme responsible for conjugation or a genetic defect of this enzyme you will not have direct bilirubin in the urine

correct me pls if wrong

also like to add that the inflammatroy process in the Liver may be blocking proper secretion of the conjugated bilirubin inot the bile duct, hence it begins to appear in the blood

tnx a lot doyoudig. nice explanation.

  #7

urine bilirubin will be present if micro obstruction occurs
