Can anyone tell me the diagnosis of conjunctivitis in neonate? Is it possible to say whether it is chlamydia or gonocooci only by gram stain??

i was wondering why should we install silver nitrate solution as a prevention of gonococcal conjunctivitis when the procedure itseld can cause chemical conjunctivitis???

Step 2 active members are only Physicians??No pediatricians around??wink

Not all preventive medicine can PREVENT but at least can try to decreased the incidence - this is why we should give silver nitrate to nn.
Gram stain is a good first screening test ; G- rods in PMN---Neisseria. For chlamydia we need DNA probe.
