I"m confused... Can someone please explains this very simple equation (s) for me.,, Acidification of urine------> increases ionization of weak bases--->increases renal elimination Alkalinization of urine------> increases ionization of weak acids--->increases renal elimination

If you acidify urine, it means you increase intra-tubular conc of H+, therefore weak bases, like morphine, will more easily bind these H+ and thus become ionized. Think of a ton of H+ around a base, what is it gonna do? bind to that... Now if these bases are ionized, ie they have a net + charge on them, they cannot pass through apolar membranes like the plasma membrane of tubular cells and therefore they cannot be reabsorbed and will be peed out For alkalynization and acids is the opposite; very little H+ around -> acids dissociate their proton -> net charge on them -> no possibility of crossing membranes
