Nortriptyline is it. Will work both for the depresive symptoms and the chronic pain. Nortriptyline is also used occasionally to treat panic disorders, chronic pain, premenstrual depression, and some skin conditions. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medma...

This man has advanced age and nortriptyline is used for depression but it causes anticholinergic efects like dry mouth constipation and urinary retention this would not be a good drug for this patient

Guys I BELIEVE YOU ARE WRONG AGAIN LOOK major depression requires according to first aid and other sources i checked depressed mood and FIVE or more of the following sleep disorder interest guilt energy concentration appetite psychomotor agitation or retardation or suicidal idealations he clearly DOES NOT have five symptoms look at the question plus come on guys how are you going to give an aNold man nortriptyline a serious side effect is anticholinergic effect which causes urinary retention this guy probably has prostate hyperplasia due to his age so the answer isChlordiazepoxide possesses sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic and muscle relaxant propertities it does not matter that his alcohol problems are in the past it will help him sleep and with pain BIG TIME.
