Please advise. I just finished my NBME 3 today and got 340! I don't know how to improve anymore. My NBME1 12/06 was 300 NBME2 02/07 340 now it is still the same. I am doing Goljan audio again. Should I reread all my Kaplan books? how about the videos? I already extended my eligibility period until July so I have about 2 months. I was planning to take my exam by end of May but not with 340! Help! Please advise what I should do.

Hi CaliMD ! you should focus on FA,and do more Qs .you should go through KAPLAN NOTES for only those topics you are weak in.Did you do UW Q BANK ?WHAT IS YOUR SCORE ?

2 leters for you UW= usmle world
I jump a 40 pointsfrom my NBME 4(330) in my NBME 3(370) in 1 months just doing UW and reading FA.
other people rise more than 60 points.

Ok . My weak area in NBME 3 is physiology so I better reread Kaplan for that after I finish Goljan today. I have been rereading FA (4 times now). I will subscribe to UW by next Monday and finish up my physio Qbank this week. Thanks for your help!

What are you ideas of taking Step 1 Live Prep? Is it worth $3,399 or I should just read my Kaplan book, UW , FA and Goljan?

Hi,
Just my 2 cents, if study self for long, a while, nothing much increase in your Q solving, score, will go for kaplan. Since already read kaplan inside out of its notes, dvd, video, to live lecture could be better.
pro & con live * vs video/dvd center prep of kap, live.... good only after read kap LN & video v. well & then go for live, ask any you do not or do understand . Sometimes you understand in wrong way. Live can feel rush or over whelm if not used to it or not used to english speaking lecture in med school or daily live of speaking english. But still doable by read book , topics ,ahead of the lectures.
Live will get alot of live notes , not only the latest books too, lucky, will get Dr. Golj etc , ask , who are the teachers at the different center, then you can choose him .But Dr. Barone is good at live too, but both teach in 2 different ways. Dr. Raymond, Dr. Barone are very alive at live, not like stay still in video or dvd.
In center prep, can still ask Q to kap IMG exm passed staff or IMG students , can repeat, review dvd with own pace. But no teachers to ask.
Go for live, if study self not improving the score, then after live, review, not too long, may be most is few months then or some go right after to exam. But , I like to review the live & do Q then , Q ready score, not only Q book, bnk, UW, but like NBME & will go to the big day.
After all it is you know yourself best for you. Not all are the same in studying, style , get benefit from same things, if like that we all will pass with 99 , cause we all do pretty much same study materials or courses & even in study style.
GL, what ever you choose, live [ better in your case] or center , put your head in that on the time, day of study at live or center, ie , the most important, that you'll get all out of the lectures & carry to the exm room & score well , you know how much

Seems , you're not in video yet, but video or not, go for live kap now , so will have good few mo. for review & Q together or after, if get video ahead , can run quick through it, all will be same or more at live depends on the teachers, subjects.
Live also will have Q [ may be more than center one] after lecture I think, live is not my experinces, just friends & closed friends shared info. Some do center then live right after right away, but your case is 2 mo. extend for exm , so & you've done kap read, so go for live .

Thanks for your advice. I did the Kaplan videos when I started studying for Step 1. That was last year. Ya maybe I do need to do LIVE. There is one at Pasadena on May 21-July 10. My eligibility ends July 31. Do you think it's doable? 3 weeks after LIVE I can do my test?

if you are doing UW and then you do live kaplan and review for 3 weeks prepare to get a 90+

Suppose you've read kap LN with some references [ HY, BRS, etc] if need more to understand, done video, kap Qbook, K.Q bank, K.physio Q, FA, all Golj audio, book/ notes , may be slides if book is old one, some do web path , also UW ... all done b4 your live prep & you've no problem of recall , understanding, concepts then.... at 6-7 week of live prep, with all time you can follow the lecture well, read ahead & after for each day lect. , then..
as GGT said, you just review all you've learned from your last yr. video prep to the live prep with all in between all LN, books , golj, all Qs notes facts you'll have with FA , some did Kap Med Essential [ not sure is extra notes or just summary of the kap , but you can scan through it fast] ... suppose your NBME 4 is new one then try it , also try NBME 1, 2, 3 again & see where you've stand, go for exm.
3 weeks review is ok, if you're not v. slow & also you seems already read all in side out .
But some like 4 weeks review.
So now do Q UW, kap Q bank, along with kap LN one more round with video notes on , may be med essential too, so 3week post live, you will be v. fast in reviewing the kap LN. Some review in 2 week , but it's too fast.
FA is only good, after know all concepts well for summary reading.
Ok, as I said b4 , all are just my 2 cents with friends experinces [ all passed with high marks with kap center prep ], but I am also like you , still in prep time for the exam.
Important, do have Q in timed too , " After in learning un-timed mode ", to see, train self as real exam. So like kap simulated, golji 7 hr Qs, usmle CD , etc in kap Q bank, UW in mixed up timed too , at least 2 or 3 block, & one full day for each at least.

Thanks again for your help. I got the schedule of the LIVE prep in Pasadena. I have two choices attend the Live prep but i am on wait list. Or follow the schedule of the prep on my on with the videos? Its 8-4 about 6 days in a week.

Why don't you study with video now while waiting with Q too,
if you're in you got help for study, will be speedy study with motivation group, you're lucky,
if youre not in , you still got help from video & here, can still ask away all q here or ask which reference books here or look in reference book self. You're still lucky , even , not in the live, ... 1. you've save money 2. you know you're your own master , queen & will have to study self , so you'll try your best & will do good with the help of all of us here with your video , LN, Qs etc & read more , understand more after more reads .
