You must send two photocopies of your final medical school diploma to ECFMG. The exact name of the final medical diploma you must provide is listed in the Reference Guide for Medical Education Credentials. The Reference Guide lists these medical credential qualifications by country of medical school. Although this Reference Guide is based upon information that was current at the time of publication, this information is subject to change.

Effective February 1, 2004, applicants for ECFMG Certification must also submit two photocopies of the final medical school transcript. For more information on what constitutes a final medical school transcript, refer to Frequently-Asked Questions, number 21.

The photocopies of your medical diploma and transcript must be 216 mm x 279 mm (8½ in x 11 in). If these documents are larger than 216 mm x 279 mm (8½ in x 11 in), you must obtain reduced photocopies that are 216 mm x 279 mm (8½ in x 11 in) and send the reduced photocopies to ECFMG. You should not submit these documents by fax only. You must send photocopies to ECFMG by mail or courier service.

Please visit the ECFMG web site for more information!! http://www.ecfmg.org/2004ib/ibmec.html#provisiono...

Your final transcripts will be released from your medical school and contain all years of medical education.

read the ECFMG bulletin, it has all the info you need regarding transcripts.
basically you only need your transcript for ECFMG registration once you have completed Step 1, STep 2CK and CS

Hi BBB,

I am helping a friend to understand the process involved to get specialized here in the USA. Let say that a doctor who is already a specialist in UK (full registration - SHO 0 Senior House Officer) wants to come to the US to work as doctor. Based on the research I have done so far, that doctor still needs to pass USMLE 1 and 2, then do the 2 years residency. After passing USMLE 3 will this doctor be eligible to work as a "specialist" or not?

Is this pretty much the mandatory process required or if there is an equivalent path for a specialized doctor from other countries to work as specialist in the USA after passing certain exams?

Please advise.

Thank you!

This person will need:

Step 1
Step 2
At this point, they will need to become ECFMG certified.
Residency - this is when they will become a specialist
At some point Step 3
Fellowship - this is when they will become a subspecialist
State Licensure

Good luck!

bein in a country where the uk sys is prevalent, the hospitals here can take a doctor from the states as an equivalent to a specialist but this only depends on the hospital itself,...
some hospitals who are based on this system won't take md's from the states at all

when I applied for Step 1 they didn't require the final transcript, so i just sent the final diploma and they sent it to my med school for verification.
Everithing was allright then in my OASIS information appeared that med. educ. credential received but do not meet requirements, Then I sent a copy of my final transcrip and now it does not say; do not meet requirement but it doesn't say meet requirements either. Is that the way it suposed to be? blank? or they are going to send my final transcrip for verification too and then OASIS is going to upgrade my credentials to, meet the requirements?

Thank you for you help.
