what are the drugs that cause hemolytic anemias??....what are the hypersensitivity reactions responsible for the hemolysis by drugs?? :roll:

  #2

*Oxidant drugs( pnemonic AAA):
1.Antibiotics(sulfa drugs)
2.antimalarials(primaquine)
3.antipyretic(acteanilid)
* dapsone
all the above causes hemolytic anemia in pts of G6PD deficiency

Drugs causing autoimmune hemolytic anemia's :
Warm (IgG) type:
1. penicillin
2. methyl dopa
both are examples of type II hypersensitivity

Cold (IgM) type:
1. quinidine
2.INH
both are examples of type III hypersensitivity reactions.

Remember :
* If the pt is on penicillins and develops rash----> type I
* If pt is on penicillins and develops hemolytic anemia---> type II
