i have been a pretty silent user but have frequented this website numerous times. i guess its my turn to give back now...
The Exam was much harder than i had ever thought. Believe me guys a few days before my exam i had read a post saying the exam was harder than UW and i laughed. I thought it could just not be possible but after giving the exam i felt exactly the same. I hope this was most probably an isolated event so please dont freak out. Just know that this is possible. another friend of mine who gave his exam on 4th said the same thing. i guess we got n isolated harder version full of mol bio and immuno. most people still end up getting the standard difficulty. I had prepared very hard fotr the exam and thought i was very well prepared for the exam. All these mysths were dispelled during the exam... Here is how it went
first and second block: decent to slightly tough. i was very confident at the end of these that i would ace the exam.
3rd 4th and 5th block: super duper hard... broke my entire confidence... lotsd of mol bio, biochem and immuno. rest was pathophys. very little anatomy and very very less micro. pharma was only graphs but doable... time mnagement was a problem and questions were quitre long and fuill of unnnecessary info. i had a calculation on the last question sof a block and was so psyched out that i messed it up. was able to finish all the questins in all the blocks ecept in one where i missed the last question with the calculatin
5th block: medium difficulty
6th: hard
7th : medium
had quite a few behavioural cience questions but these were manageable about 60% of tyhe times. the rest 40% were quite confusing with to good and equally appealing choices. dont think one can prepare much for them though.
here is my prep details
time 6 months full time
books
Kaplan anatomy, physiology, biochem, immuno, pharma, microbiology an behavioural sciences: Read all 3 times
HY Gross anatomy, Embryology, Neuroanatomy: 2-3 times
HY Histology : 1 time
MMRS : 2 times
BRS Physio and Pathology: Once and only superficially to add all the extra points to the kaplan notes
GOLJAN PATHOLOGY STARS REVIEW : 3 times. the absolute best book on the subject. love it.
Katzung Pharma textbook and Lippincotts textbook: for some imp chapters only
BRS Behavioural Science Fadem: Another wonderful book
Websites:Also went through Netanatomy for CTS MRI etc. UWash website for ethics.
UW scores 76% cumulative.
Started with 79-80 but dropped in the end a llittle as i had to finish 800 Qs in two days to finish all the questions. so my performance dipped. still a decent number to end on
Did not do Kaplan Q Bank or Q Book
USMLE CD 42, 42, 46
NBME Form 1 Downloaded :86% correct
Now i am waiting for the results with crossed fingers. I had given more than my best and had hoped to come out feeling satisfied. but frankly after the exam i am left with no clue as to how it went
I advice you to do as many questins as possible. UW is a must but always use it as a lerning tool than a testing tool. ur scores dont count ur concepts do...
KME was a boon for me and i did theses three times. i believe they are much bettr then FA 2006 except micro. and phrma which are pretty well covered in FA.

good luck on your scores cutelildoc! im sure you did fine! nobody comes out of the exam with cartwheels and backflips.. i was a wreck too and now the alcohol level has stabilized my mood..
i think the exam is designed to crush spirits.. remember the shower scene in ace ventura where jim carrey was crying in the shower after he found out he just made out with a man? that's me after the exam.. and im typing this as i do that now..

btw...I have a Q...I have 45 days and in my schedule...just like yours...Ill have to finish 1000 Qs in 5 days to finish the whole Q bank b4 it expires... do you think ( after experiencing the same thing ) I should do it or was it too much and didnt really help ? I mean shall I do so and finish or leave it and start UW in a relax mode ?
