I´m an IMG, besides the application for the H1 visa and to improve your application, is there another purpose for S3?...
Do you HAVE to take it while in residency? or before finishing it?
Do you have to pass it in order to take the specialty board?
Do you need it in order to get into a fellowship?
Suposse I´m looking for J1 visa, plan to do residency and maybe fellowship in the US then go back to home country do I have to pass it in the 7 year period?

you dont have to take it before your residency......if you dont want H1 but you will have to pass it during your residency,.......if i m correct before before you finish your 2nd year of residency,
this is what i know........hope it helps
