A 84 year old man presents to the phydician complaining of inability to complete intercourse. He repots that he can achieve erection, but cannot maintain it long enough to ejaculate. He indicates that he has not experienced this problem before, but that he just began a sexual relationship with his new girlfriend. They have attempted intercourse 4 times in the last week, none of which were successful. After taking a detailed sexual history, the physician concludes the problem is physiologic. Potential causes include which of the following? a) Increased blood flow to cavernosum b) Increased guanylate cyclase in penile smooth muscle c) Decreased nitric oxide release d) Penile smooth muscle relaxation e) Increased PNS action
