i actually have a trouble getting this but can somebody explain why a hapten cant initiate an immune response by itself and what difference exactly a carrier makes in making it immunogenic

its molecular weight..haptan are low mol weight to be recognaised by cell itself as antigen...

if that actually is the case then perhaps any carrier protein attached to a hapten would initiate a secondary immune response why do we need that hapten attached to same carrier protein the second time too for secondary immune response i am sorry but i am not satisfied with mol.wt. theory
