For some programs there is a 2-5 years cut off, for the rest that is not a factor as long as you´re active and productive

I agree with egomez, 2-5 years is the usual cutoff for most of the programs which do have this requirement. Others don't care and others are flexible, if you've been active, they won't care either.

It depends on each program... some will require not to be an old grad and even specify the # of years from graduation... Others won't care at all. Being active means being involved in medical activities... any type... am I right chemamr?? You just have to search for those programs that don't have a cutoff in graduation years... several "mommies" match after being inactive for 10 of so years... anything is possible.

Every program is going to have a different requirement for the years of graduation.

it varies as BBB says. active -as Isther says- means: observerships, externships, working as a physician or physician assistant, doing research, working as a volunteer, etc, etc, etc. regards my dear Isther.

Question for all the MOMMIES who matched. How did you explain the 4-5 yrs gap after graduation( when you remained inactive professionally). Did the PD asks such questions? Thank you

how about this: I'm raising my kid and supporting my husband in his study/career. Now my kid is in the schoolage, so that I have more time for myself. Now, it's time for me to pursue my dream of becoming a pediatrician (or whatever speciality you apply for). However, during the past 4-5 years I did update my medical knowledge by advising my friends who ask me about their illness or medical problem. I also read and (better: wrote) medical related articles for an organization. and so on.

In a marriage, to get into a program is always more difficult to women... that is why I like to read those encouraging stories. Best of Lucks to all the mommies out there trying to continue with their careers, after sacrificed a lot for their husbands and children.!!!!
