Cutoff for more invasive approach is 30 years of age. That is what Appleton&Lange says (I'll check what is their reference). So presence of "dominant" mass - meaning solid/non-cystic - requires mamography (prior to 30 years ultrasound, because of density) followed by needle biopsy. In younger ones, it can be followed by US/mamography in 6 months. Cystic ones can be aspirated and followed for recurrence. If aspirated fluid is not clear, it is sent for cytology findings of which direct further approach. Am I missing something? Anyone else?
