icehell wrote: cause 6 months too much for step2 ck!!!! I am a 5th year student and studying step 2 along with my clinical rotations, i.e. im now taking Pediatrics and studying it from step 2 as well. Which means that I will be studying step 2 for 2 years man plz DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE USMLE!! im not saying u should give it 2 years but it would be of no benefit if i take it earlier...6 months are not too much and DO NOT listen to people's talks who havent taken the USMLE otherwise ur gonna be shocked in the exam. Before taking step 1, I was told to know the MCQs by heart because they will be the same in the actual test...BULLSHIT ....egyptians = efta2at. Ive met a miserable doc yesterday in ma3mal el borg who failed step 1 twice!! dont just look at unsuccessful experiences though, just keep both in mind! sadeki

NOOOOOOOO....6 months are NOT too much for CK at all...... those people taking it in 3 and 4 months or less are doing nothing in their life but studying.....they wake up to study...., read books while they're eating.....no work, no faculty, no life at all if you are in faculty like Faddy, or graduated and working like me....you'll find your self with only 5 or 6 hours max. availablr per day.....and believe me there's lot of work to do to get ready for the exam.....give it its time to get satisfactory results... Best of luck

I think when you have in your hands the papers proving you have a CS exam or what proves you have an interview there, then you'll get the visa without worry........ also I think that some residency programes supports the J -1 visa.....also the ECFMG site can support J -1 visa as I guess

Hey mildanemia!!!! Its great to have you back brother how did it go? did u have fun? The visa needed for the CS exam is B1/B2, the one for residency is either J1 or H1. And man it would be quite immature thinking to give up the whole thing because you heard a sad story . ECFMG sponsor the J1 visa when you are certified, not the residency program. B1 visa should be easier to get when u have something that shows ur going for an exam, bas brdo enta we 7ezak and as we said earlier nothing is secured The visa may be an obstacle but not the one ur supposed to be thinking of now...u should worry about passing the steps first. welcome back mildanemia basha

One should try to know as much as possible about his/her culture, that is something most us don't care much about. Where we came from, what people did and how we ended up this way.

as regard visa for residency u can join on j1 but u must return home for 2 yrs after residency or waive this 2 years by a waiver job which is available only for 1ry care specialities so thosa aspiring surgery or anaesthesia must avoid j1 at all if they want stay and practice in usa h1b visa is sponsored by the hospital many programs in internal medicine do so very few of other competetive residencies such as surgery and er h1 b can be converted to green card directly and is not vulnerable to the two years return to ur home country hope this helps

That was great. Just to add: J1: Moonlighting is not allowed, Step 3 not needed. H1: Moonlighting is allowed, Step 3 needed. Here's a great thread about the visa issue: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?p=... and another one about the J1 waiver: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=...

FaddyAcids wrote: That was great. Just to add: J1: Moonlighting is not allowed, Step 3 not needed. H1: Moonlighting is allowed, Step 3 needed. I am quoting myself Another thing is that fellowships are harder to get on H-1B, so people usually work for a year after residency, get the GC, bank some money ..and then apply for a fellowship.

this is right faddy but things r changing i have read that recently fellowship program directors become more open to h1b any way residency it self is a dream get the residency u dream off and then fellowship is another issue also doctors think of fellowships cause the more u specialize the more u earn money but remember that the more u earn money the more taxes r taken from u!!!!!!
