well, I find Mezo's talking very convincing regarding how step-1 will make you strong in basic knowladge and this is sure good...,
but I'm also still convinced , as ra7man, that taking step-2 1st wont hurt you that much, and you'll still be able to get good score with hard work and lot of questions, and with understanding concepts not by only memorizing.....,
any way, lot of experiences involving the 2 cenarios are present and lot of people get great score and others get bad score in both ways....,
I don't know, but I think it's a matter of good preparation and good coverage of your weak areas...
and at the end, it's your decision 7ooda,..... and I think we made you very confused

actually it is a very important issue u are talking about...for me as i think i am considering step ck first...as i am a final year student...studyig surgery and..obs & GYNA...& i studied medicine the last year...so u still hae all those info right back in your mind...& it won't take much effort to memorizing any new data especailly if you were doing good in school in those last final years..!
i was talking to an indian friend...she was recommending studying basic sciences for step ..i think she recommended PATHOLOGY...!...and she said internal medicine will be very helpful in step 1...!
so here is the final result i ahe reached...:
#1)do step ck at the begining...but study those basic subjects recommended for it...( And we will know what to study through our friends' experiences...I AM SURE THEY WILL BE ERY HELPFUL..right....KONO....RA7MAN...and everyone overhere....)...
OR
#2) Study for step 1 first ...and forget about all those subjects that were still fresh in your mind.....
so what do ya think about those conclusions ..!!!

i have a question...
i can see some of you finished medical school may be around 4-5 years ago...so in those years ...what were you doing.....i mean did you catch up a residency here in egypt in the uniersity teaching schools...or any national inistitute...!?...

 ...., me [ walhamdolellah ] finished elemteyaz and went to eltakleef, we addet feeh aswaa senen 7ayaty , and now I'm in an unpaid leave to finish these steps and get out of this country ASAP .....
if I had the right advice long time ago, I would have finished all these steps during elemteyaz as kono did and never to take this takleef and begin my right life and carrer immediately after elemteyaz....., any way what happened happened and done...

I was out of town for couple of days me votes for CK first, because I took step 1 first but I guess both steps are overlapped..
do you mean residency in the states (Ra7man) ?

Guys,
I'm in this since 2003, so many happened to me during these damn years, and i watched so many experiences and was a close observer of so many friends who took the same Ship as we are doing and am just telling u my experience i gained from all these yrs, i'm not imposing anything on anyone, and i'm notsaying that anything is not feasible, everything is feasible, everything can be done, i'm just saying this is Hard and this is less Harder, not a piece of cake just lil less harder ...
Those who did CK 1st and got high scoresin it, mostly were, so good back in school, getting Excellent or something and still harder with them .... and one more thing, they arranged the test and named this as step1 and this as step2, this for sure for a reason and must be a clue for u to follow their order .. the choice is urs after all.

I was typing those words and was thinking of u, as i was afraid to confuse u now, u already made a decision and took serious steps in it and long distance u've walked, so don't even think of going back, just continue but work harder, and don't move on without getting a good grasp of the subjects u r reviewing even if u opened step1 books and studied them, some advised me to use the preclinical primer in the FA before each desciplin in CK ... do consider that

What is the thing that u would do if u retook step1 again ??
what is ur advice to me??? what to focus on ???
can u give me lil hint about ur exam. how it went ?? what was they focusing on ??? the qs were closest to which q-bank ??
Also, i just came to realize that NBME put new assessment forms to step1, i reading people talking about fom 6 ??? i only has 4 forms .... i won't take any online, as i never be able to assess myself b4 the exam. day and also afraid to confuse myself, i use qs as learning tool not as assessment, what do u think of that?? and do u think i still have to check form 5 & 6 or not ???

well mezo u should be using nbmes as learning tool
many of the exam takers lately says they got similar questions on the exam
so i think it worth it to do form 5 and 6 and if there r 100 forms it worth
and am sure they will continue making new forms to keep collecting money!!!!!

@ Mezo : You said your friends advised you to read the preclinical primer in FA before 2 CK ( Can you tell me what is that ? is it a chapter in FA step 1 ? or is it scattered through out the book ? )

good advice Mezo, thanks I'll sure concider that
and as you said I can not go back at all, I'm already in my final revision and my exam is in July Inshaallah, so no going back...just more hard work ..

@DR EGYPTIAN..." :..I THINK the cds you need...(kaplan video DVDs..i guess..)..they are available at the bookshops at the faculty of medicine ain shams univ. ...i think they were around 10 dvds for each step...each step will cost you about 150 LE...

here are the answers,,,,,
1)The usual books :in that order
kaplan notes (read them once carefully)
prestest (if u have extra time only, otherwise skip it "but if r askin me to do them or to do 2nd read i'll recommend doing them as i dont recommend to read twice from the same source as u will not get anything new")
kaplan q bank (to start being in shape for mcqs) and q bank
UW (is a must and make it ur last source b4 the exam cuz it's very simliar to it)"i did step 3 with only UW "28 blocks and 66 cases in about 1 month"
((althouhg i didnt know about the kaplan q bank and UW b4 step 1 but sure i would have done them if i knew about them by that time))
FA (for step 1) and USMLE secrets (for step 2CK if u need to browse in last month b4 the exam)
2)minimal time depends on u and ur pacing, u can start studying and see how things going and u will know (eg:if u have 8 books and u find that u finish 1 book in a month then u will need 8 months roughly) lets say may be 8 months for step 1 and 6 for 2CK , 3 weeks step 2 CS "although its the most touhg" and variable of course"
3)i recommend step 1 then 2ck then 2 cs then 3 "if it wasn't the right order they werent have been called 1,2 and 3" (step 1 will help u in 2 and make ur step 2 score higher "the score of clinical knowledge that seems more important to PD than basic sciences" and step 1 needs really hard work so start with ur full energy cuz it fades away with each step so u dont want to sit for step 1 and u r exhauted from step 2 and finally step 2 ck will help u doin step 3 with minimal effort cuz time gap between 2ck and 3 will be minimal(by the way i shifted to step 1 study from step 2 "after spendin 2 months in step 2ck study" after i saw the books of step 1 by chance!)
4)the advice is "All or None law"....if u decide to do USMLE just trust urself, do ur best ,go for it and do it as it should be done.
less talk and more work (like the way "kolo darb darb mafesh shtayem")
