#3)about the matter of electives.....is there anyone here who did electives...if so...would ya please kindly tell me about your experience...about the whole thing from A-Z..the expenses.. where u had them...when u did it....??
1) Actually me too is confused about this point, i did step2 1st and it was a miss, other did step2 1st and it was ok, the thing is the both steps r related so much to each other, in step1 ur problem is to learn the key clues to diagnose the cases presented which u get from step2, while in step2, u've been asked on basic knowledge u got from step1, so, i think if u were getting Excellent or at least very good in Med school, then doing any step 1st won't differ,, however if u r not from this category, better is to follow the order 1 then 2, and if u find difficulty while ur studying, u can study internal medicine from step2 with it, it will ease things for u
2) getting Recommendation letters is not a big deal, if u went to any of ur Drs. in ur faculty, many will agree to sign u one, u prepare it and they will sign no problem ... electives are a gr8 thing to have on ur CV, but it is not that easy and not a must, they know that u r an IMG, although some hospitals require USCE, lots don't but still prefer, u do try to have any this yr, it will be gr8, just log on http://www.ama-assn.org/vapp/freida/srch/ get the hospital list and start mailing them inquiring about the requirements to have an electives, and the dead line of application and fees and all that ... BTY, they will require u to get TOEFL international one, so prepare it while u mailing them, also look for the universities, my brother got an answer from Harvard and Yale which was so gr8, but he couldn't get it coz he had passed the dead line of application without getting the TOEFL and completing his papers .... it will cost by the way, for travel, staying there and may be paying for them too to get the elcetive ... consider that too  , i can't tell u the exact expeneses, as it differs from state to state, for hospital to hospital and airline tickets even differ by distance and time of the year, but u should be prepared for paying about at least 500$/m for living if they gonna offer u a place in their campus, and like them may be for the elective fees, and airline not less than 5000 EGPs ... and all may be much more ...

But do you think someone can get matched the same year yel7a2 ye3mel el mwdoo3 da? if all steps are done? you know the ROL deadline im sure you've gone through this, does that dean letter work instead of the diploma and make you certified??
Because if I can do this, I'll take step 2 CK and CS during 6th year... I dont wanna rush though and still get stuck because of my diploma.. what do you think?

one more question egyptians,
when I send my final diploma to ECFMG with form 186, do I send them the medical transcript too [ 3adad elsa3at we ta2der elmawad] ? or should I wait till they verify my papers with the faculty and ask for them and then send them or what?
as I have them ready with me and thinking of sending them tomorrow with the rest of papers

you did not send your transcripts now, youwaite till they verify your finalmedical diploma(el kartoon).
when they return the diploma to your school they will ask them to include your transcripts.
if they do not send your transcripts they will inform you to send them.

just send what they asked for, as i remember ,They just ask for el cartoon, nothing more nothing less, just get it copied like they requested and send it .. i didn't send transcrip neither credit hours .. if i'm wrong and they are asking for something else, just follow the instructions

To Nany...as I told U b4,I sent them the transcript with my diploma in the first time..When I called them for checking,they said,"you dont have to send us ur final medical transcript,we will ask ur school to do so with verification of ur diploma"..so I think If u already have one in ur hands,keep it till they send to ur school and then include that paper with the mail ur school will send to ECFMG.

hey frnds...I need ur advice.
Nowdays I`m doing the offline version of UW...I dont have more than 90$ now and would like to join an online q bank.what u suggest?to pay the whole sum for 1 month of online UW or for two forms of NBME?....plz advise.thx

hi everyone...at the begining thank u all...for replying back my posts...that wa s really very kind of you...
i am gonna tell ya the conclusion i got...and if anyone would like to edit something or suggest anything ...that'll be welcomed a lot..coz as i told ya before i have no experience about the usmle issue...ok..so read carefully what i will be writing and think about it...
at the moment..i will be focusing on my studying here in egypt..( previously mentioned that i'm a final year medical student at ain shams..)...in those 2 lovely courses of surgery and obs & gyna...doing ma best...my very best...in el emtiaz year i will be probably studying for step 2...so please any study partner get ready i will start by the end of JANUARY 2009...!!!...
About the matter of letter of recommendation ...MEZO said that getting LORs from medical staff here in egypt at ain shams or cairo univ...would be helping...and i think the professors won't mind..
For the electives...i still dont know ...i might not be doing any electives... ....
so till now what do ya think about i have reached..?!!

sounds good but u could start now preparing surgery and ob/gyn for step 2 as well, would also help in school.. besides i think letters of recommendation from foreign physicians wont be seriously considered

NBME is the best predictor of ur actual score but UW is a must.. if u have to chose one go for UW i guess..

r u doing step1 or step2 ?? .... just tell me, i might be able to help u somehow, look ... UW is a must and u should be using it as a learning tool, but NBME is just to assess ur performance, so i think NBME may be found somewhere if searched the forums to download, and do them, but u've to do UW online, older version are not enough, and u have to train urself on the Randomized timed mood.

Getting LOR from Egypt won't be that helping, but it is required to submit at least 3 LORs, so u can get them from here just to complete ur papers, but if u managed somehow to get them from US, this ofcourse will be much better.

No egyusmler, loose the offline UW, u must do it online, they added a lot of qs and as i said u've to train urself, Random, Timed mood ...

)are not releasing the final diploma once u finish 6th year...so u have to go to "edaret el gam3a" and ask where this final diploma is issued and explain that u need it now..they will ask u to go to ur college and pay some money and get like receipt and return with it back and they will write it for u (it will not be ready as they write it on individual basis if its needed earlier than they used to release)
