well mezzo when i talked to my friend he said he was trained in time managment
but one thing he told me is that he pick the answers of calculation questions in beh science just randomly
he said he knew the equations but didnot want to spend much time on those
there were four questions of that type
i think this means u should pay attention to every question
also may be the score is dramatically affected if they found u totally ignore a certain topic

hi
this is my 1st post here,i really did not know about this section of prep4usmle
it seems that my score report for step 1 will be delayed as the ECFMG sent a request to my medical school to re verify my enrollment in the medical school,but there was no reply.
they will re send the request again.i hope they recieve it this time.
I think this is because i applyed when i was student ( during the emtyaz ) and take the exam after the graduation
also,I did not send my final medical diploma as only what i got is the temporary certificate.
any one has similar situation or experience plz share as I really up terrified.

It doesnt go by what you were at the time you've applied, you must have told them that you would be a graduate at the time you take the exam... just follow up with your school and make sure they send something that says you graduated from this school... ECFMG will then release your score once they receive the verification from your med school..

u should have applied as a graduate (cuz u r no longer student once u finished ur 6th year"graduation date is after u finish your 6th year not emtyaz") and you should get ur final medical diploma (not the temporary one) and get it translated and send it to ecfmg.
and you should note all guys while filling the application there is question saying (is spending one year of internship necessary for graduation? and the answer you should choose is "NO" cuz actually u r graduated once u finish 6th year even if u dont spend the "emtyaz" the "emtyaz"year is only necessary to get the license to practice in egypt not to graduate)

So I get back to the question I asked 99 months ago would it work if I apply for a residency right after 6th year?? if everything goes well?? graduate on January to residency on July? would it work like that? I really dont wanna spend the year of emteyaz in here

yeah sure it works...u only need the "emtyaz" year to get the license to practice in egypt so if u dont do ur emtyaz its ok to get residency in USA (but u should have answered the question mentioned before with "NO" on ur application) but remember that:
1- u will not be allowed to work as a doctor in egypt even if u got the board and u had to return to egypt at anytime for any circumstances (will have to spend the emtyaz even by then while u r board certified !!!"imagine doing emtyaz in egypt after the board)
2- if u have citizenship,Grean card, or will travel on H1B there will be no problem at all in doing what u say but if u travel on J1 visa u will need statement of ministry of health and u can't get it if u r not licensed doctor!
3- if u dont wanna spend emtyaz in egy u can look for hospital in US that accept u for observership, externship or whatever and transfer ur emtyaz there and it will be counted for u in egypt (it will be treated like as if u r in ain shams for example and transferred the sugery to any other general hospiatl in cairo) and after u finish it u return to egypt just to finish the paper work and be registered in egyptian medical syndicate and get the license.
regardin the diploma
u have the right to get the final diploma once the results of 6th year are released,,,,even if the cleck told u that u can get later tell him u need it urgently and pay the fees of wt i think was called "est3gal" or smthing....i got my final diploma while still in emtyaz and finished the whole application and verification while im still in emtyaz as a Graduate

no, you cannot apply for a residency faddy
as you should be certified by ecfmg, to be eligibile for residency by most of the program
regarding the graduation, kono you must finish the emtyaz to get the diploma,and for them they consider the graduation when you finish all the requirment to get your diploma.
I f you tell them that you are graduated after the 6th year you should send them your final medical diploma to apply for the exams and this will not happen after the6th year

Kono, when exactly did you get your diploma? ain-shams? I don't care about practicing in egypt I know for sure that it has nothing to do with el emteyaz, but the point is when it will be issued.. because I need it before the ROL deadline which is usually on late February! So its all a matter of time..

1. another non-answerable question LORs are as important as USMLE scores but I guess you can still find a spot with good scores u never know!
2. it wont help i think they dont give a sh*t about what you were in ur home country when chosing their residents..

I'm not with kono in what he adviced, coz not everyone is like him, he is like the Idol of our topic here ... He Masha ALLAH finished everything in a very short period with flying scores ... for ohters things might not work like that, However, i did the same he did, just because the diploma states that the graduation is after the 6th yr, however, i answered my diploma won't be issued till i finish intership .. i remeber that there was a q like that ...
But When i get to apply to residencies ISA, i will write my graduation after the Emtiaz, coz they don't prefer old graduates which some consider 3 yrs from graduation and others consider 5 yrs, and they won't look at ur ECFMG data, just the transcript ... all my class mates did that and i will follow them ISA.

regarding ur 2nd q, it won't hurt for sure, although they don't consider it, but won't hurt u, 1 advice, put in ur CV every single detail about u, even if u consider won't differ, their point of view may differ a lot , u may get a position just because u share the same interests of the Program director who interviewed u, i know a friend from Pakistan, she failed twice in each step and passed with 78 & 79 ... and got matched in psyciatry in Washington DC, just because she read a book that was written by the program director and she discussed it with him during the interview and he liked her oponions a lot and insists on having her on his team, she even had a problem with her work permission and dead line passed with signing the contract, then they offered someone else, but this one accepted another post, so they returned back to her, where she was done with that permission and got the job .. so don't underestimate anything u did ...

Mezo pasha , is it possible to write the year of ending EMTIAZ as your graduation year when applying for residency?
cause it is unfair to waste 2 valuable years cause of stupid system
as i will finish EMTIAZ in 2010 but i'll be counted as 2008 graduate . whole 2 years wasted without any use of them
i think if it is possible ill say i'm 2010 graduate which is TRUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Now I can not go to have step 2 cs till i know what will happen in (farz el geesh),which will be in next Nov.
My friend told me that you can try to get externship which will offer you a student visa so you can go only by this way.
well,Is this true.
also generally what do you need to get an externship?

when applying for the exam. i.e. in IWA ( ECFMG) application write 2008 just to be identical to the data on ur diploma and don't confuse them, however, when u apply to a residency through ERAS, write 2010, all my friends did the same and when they got for an interview, they explain that the system won't grant them the diploma till they finish the 1 yr internship, i.e. it is required by the law to be certified as a grdaute and offer them them The certificate of Emtiaz .... others may disagree with if this info that u gonna tell them true or not true, actually we will never know, coz laws here in Egypt are not clear and everyone explanis it according to his/her understanding, so we too should do what's in favor of our mission, even if we r wrong, we r not cheating anyone, it is a bretty dum limitation they are putting and all the Egyptians that go there even the ones with low scores and old graduates, exceeds their expectations and overbeat them, so don't worry, u r not doing anything wrong ...

I can't help u with that, i don't know if this is feasible or not but even if it is, it will be a tough mission to get someone in the army to understand ur situation .... they barely understand the egyptian dilemmas, they only act like machines, their brains are set to be off all the time, so good luck with that

[ kaplan step-1 DVDs ]..., how many DVDs are they? and what's their price? and also what it their year of production? and which liberary is selling them?
my cousin will get them to a friend of mine from cairo and I want him to know the details not to make a mistake..
