well, I told him the same but he didn't understand me...,

I thought that if we did only one thing right each day will be better than doing all of this in only one day and then done...

Maoudoody basha, Wallahy El Blog nawar ..... thanx for ur nice words ....

Elsamt elraheeb, dah i think coz of the net problem, untill now, the net is on & off at my side, what about u??

shockedshocked....oh my god.....,

I thought that once you passed whatever step and paid for the CS exam, then they can't reject your visa application .....,

but it seems that they can do any thing.....

but I think as he said that being applied for immegrant visa before showed them that he intends to stay there, and they want us to return to our country at the end....,

this interview made me sad sad

Sorry for that, i didn't mean to upset u, but let's look at the bright side, the things we learned from that experience ..... from ym point of view ... u may be with or against but let's discuss & learn ....

1st don't go very early to have ur visa, i think this would show how eager u r to go to the states and this ofcourse won't help ur case

2nd it is better to go with ur step1 score than ur step2 and the best is with both, as the counsoler most of the time is not familiar with usmle and so when asks did u do step1? ur answer would be yes .... and so, s/he will get that u r done with all ur other steps and just left with CS although u may be not ....

3rd U should work harder to show ur ties to Egypt e.g. u've properties in Egypt, ur job is successful and pay u good enough, have family ties married or engaged .... etc.

That is all what i can think about right now , any additions?? agrees or disagrees???

i m a student from egypt in the last year of medical school i did step 1 and i wanted to know if taking my internship in usa will increase the chances of getting the residency and will be a good support in my cv , besides if anybody knows the duration i could stay in the us , some says that i can only do it in 6 months and this will have a good feedback in my chances , others say i should stay more time
and how much will it cost and will it be better in some hospitals .. plz anybody has info i will be thankful to hear it

Hey Mezo, I agree with your conclusion,

and in addition, we shouldn't try to apply for the immegrant lottery at all grin

and to abdo, for sure having any USCE will add in your chances to win a residency in the match, but I think the other points you asked about will be answered better by our egyptians here grin

hey Abdo,

Ofcourse USCCE will be a big post to ur CV as many programs ask for it and the ones that don't prefer it ....

Try to do of it as long as u can, it won't hurt, will benefit much, however, the minimum duration that programs ask for is 3 months .... of course it is costy to live and study in usa, my friends there spend about 800 - 1000 $ / months including Rent, Food , Gas, Bills & installments .... it differs according to the state u r staying at e.g. New york and LA r expensive , Houston is Cheaper, and i think the hospitals that offer electives/externships for IMG also offer housing but not all, u should start e-mailing them from now ask for requirements, housing and dead lines for applications ..... U should do it in ACGME accredited hospitals i think, but i'm not sure, ...... u should log on http://www.ama-assn.org/ama/pub/category/2997.htm...

There u can find a list of all the programs and their contact infos ....

After 9months of stop working in s.sinai i bak without any tiny q.
but the bad news i met old friend there and ask him about his exp. in usa...he made externship there and stay w his relative was working & study for steps same time then he passed step1 & step2cs but he prefered not to cmplete steps & bak to egypt from wat happened to his friend who passed the 3 steps and during his fellowship he want bak to egypt to see his family & when he want to bak to his work in usa the embassy here refuse to gave hime VISAshaking head
also he have friend in usa now passed step1 &2ck&cs till now he didnt accepted in any match prog. after 3 years of completion!anyway he work now in cloth store from 7am to 11 pm!mad
conclusion...if you can get the green card by any mean(for ex. by marriage from us res.) so your chance to get residency in usa is very high even if u got 80% in both steps!grin

A ya 3am ElZalam ElDames Dah 3ala Elsob7 keda??? Eldonia mesh Dalma awy keda .... and with the right approach u can get a residency easily, i've many friends who got matched, no one had to have GC to get matched and some even got a spot from GC holders and citizens, it all depends on ur CV, work on ur CV thn let's c, and also if u know anyone there, sure he will help u, LOOK IF YOU DIDN'T TRY,THEN SURELY U DON'T HAVE A CHANCE, BUT IF U TRIED THEN U HAVE A CHANCE, EVEN IF IT IS A VERY SLIGHT CHANCE, THIS CAN'T MAKE U STOP ...... LOOSERS ALWAYS SEE DIFFICULTY IN EACH OPPORTUNITY WHILE SUCCESSFULS ALWAYS SEE OPPORTUNITY IN EACH DIFFICULTY .... PUT THAT IN MIND AND WORK BY IT .....

There are so many reasons why he didn't get a visa, he might broke the pevious one, and if he got Denial fo J1, he can do Step3 and apply the following year for H1b, i've a friend who did that, couple of yrs ago, he was assistant professor Neurosurgery in Mansoura University, got 89 & 91, got matched in neurology on j1, got denial in embassy, but he went again, did step3 passed and matched again in the same program this time they sponsored him for H1b and he took it and he is there now LIVING HAPPILY EVERAFTER grin

Don't loose Hope, Don't let others get to u, focus and do ur best and leave the rest to ALLAH .... Nothing is guranteed in life ....

you can apply for matching by one step (step1 or step2) but your chance is low............is that right?

  #571

yes, program directors won't even look at ur application untill u became ECFMG certified due to the heavy load of applicants and if u become certified late ( after septemebr ) ur chances become lower everyday as they already have been checking so many certified applicants & already offering many interviews so y go back to check on a newly certified one while i have many on hand ..... so best chance to be certified b4 begining of Septemebr 1st, the start of match process ... if i did step 3 before the match and i applied in it , is that will help me to be full board certified and can increase my chances in reidency postion and help me ot take H1b visa??

step3 doesn't affect ur chances in the match but if u wanna apply for H1b u've to pass step3 before ur contract signing i.e. probably by mid February " The match Day " .... and i think that makes ur deadline to examine step3 is jan. 1st, but i'm not sure of that last point ....

one more thing Step1,2 CK & CS gives u temporary ECFMG certificate by which u can apply for macth and work but u r still required to do ur step3 within 7 yrs - i think - of ur temporary cetification , after passing ur Step3 u become permenantly certified and now u can apply for the boards of ur speciality ...
