He didnt do the NBME, he was telling me it was around 40's on UW!! I was in late 50's in UW, but I only did 70% of the questions and was mostly using it as a studying tool. I think one will pass the exam if he's above 50 in UW.

Well he definitely wasn't going to get a 99 with a score around 40 on UW, perhaps he shouldn't have gotten a 42 but there are other aspects other than prep. You're mood during the exam, sleep the night before, tension/anxiety, and his mental state after all those hours of solving MCQs. His speed during the exam is another key factor, did he finish all of the questions ? It's not directly proportionate to the time you take to study, if you stretch it out too long you will forget a lot of stuff; the stuff you studied during the beginning in particular. We've learned a couple of lessons from your friends' experience: Not to take to long during preparation and to do the NBMEs because they are a better predictor of your actual score. At the end of the day getting a 42 is better than getting a 75, you're not stuck with it for life.

Totally right! I personally wasn't anxious at all the days before the exam, I felt very well prepared and was relaxing and watching movies on the last night. Then I was in shock in the exam itself, maybe because it was tougher than I've thought and ALL THE QUESTIONS WERE TOO LONG! But I was doing fine unconsciously And I wasn't nervous though which is very important. I was taking a small smoking break after every block I told him what you've just said but he prefers having a bad score and go for any specialty anywhere, than redoing the whole thing again! He was also telling me about a trial test they take in Amideast that is a great predictor of your score, because someone he knows took that test, got 72,,,and 71 in the actual exam.

So the USMLE works for both, that's great! And what is the average salary of a GP in New Zealand? No, you have to pass the IELTS and PLAB. But dump England anyway its quite difficult plus many english docs are jobless aslan! France has its own exams that I'm not really aware of, but again it's not really worth it. I know a cardiologist in France, someone in the family, she used to make around 1500 Euro! She's now an IM resident in Florida! "Je parle francais comme les oiseaux de Paris" Germany doesnt have any exams, you just have to pass some linguistic exams I guess! And of course you know the Canadian MCCEE, and it's very tough to get a spot in Canada. The US is definitely the best, but it's also good to have a look around
