dharjma wrote: because in a free market the one with the most competitive application always wins. PDs love good numbers as much as anyone else, thats why. although if the pd is already hell bent on hiring you, its just a matter of formality for the visa. Perhaps this makes sense, but from what I've heard most PDs dont really factor in the step 3 score in the residency application process! Any other input ? Jay

Agreed completely with dharjma. In this competitive market of IMGs, a good score in any exam can make you stand out from the rest of the applicants. Also, if you have low scores iin any step, this is one of the ways in which you can get your application noiced by the PD. But, the whole purpose of Step 3 in reality for FMGs is just H1.

There are two mechanisms play a role to increase serum glucose 1. Glucose in diet 2. Other substances like protein and fat converted into glucose within the body Acarbose acts only on 1 but not on 2. Patient still can have hyperglycemia while on Acarbose. If it is not true, all diabetics will be under control by only Acarbose.

step 3 is very important for fellowship application; low score may be detrimental to some extent

It will be helpful if you will have high score. Even if you want H1b visa if somebody with good score for same place he will be given preference. It is my oppinion.

I really dont think step 3 scores have any value in the residenct selection process. Fellowships are on who-knows-who basis and have very little if anything to do with step 3 scores. The only significance of step 3 before the match is to qualify for H1B. so if you did not get a 99 on step 3.. don't sweat! if you fail step 3.. the program will give you a J1 instead.. its not their headache and they will not kick you out

personally i think the psyche has changed a lot in recent years and people are now gunning for no less than 99..obviously to make the application stronger and although most programs dont openly confess it, they are more biased to applicants who are better in step 3, if all other creds are same..i got rejects from Abington and Salem, MA 'coz i am not done with my step 3..i dont mean to praise myself, but if i have a double 99, with 250+ in both steps and a previous residency, should not programs think that i will pass step 3(get a 75) for sure...they might, but still they prefer those done with step 3 and once you have 2 candidates who have step 3 results, the comparison is bound to start
